A Photoshop question so basic I am embarrassed to ask it.
Every time I have to install or re-install photoshop I get stumped by one thing that I can never remember. How do I get adjustment layers to clip to their image layers by default?

When photoshop is first installed adjustment layers do not clip - you have to do it by hand every time you create one which I find really tedious as 95% of the time my adjustment layers are always clipped.

Buried somewhere slightly unexpected, if I remember correctly, there is a setting that will clip them by default.

Damned if I can find it again ........... this is really embarrassing ........

Adobe has buried this one away in such an obscure location that I'm amazed anyone can find it.

Go to Window>Adjustments then click on the drop-down box at top right of the Adjustments panel and select Clip to Layer. All of your adjustment layers will then be affected by the selection

Re: A Photoshop question so basic I am embarrassed to ask it.
I was about to post that I just discovered it (again) and share the info with everyone and found your reply waiting for me.

I knew it was buried somewhere obscure. Yes, the only way it can be accessed is to have the Adjustments panel open (which many people don't use). Then it is just as you say.

I googled and checked Adobe's help files and couldn't find a single mention of this anywhere. I re-discovered it by simply clicking everywhere I could think of. If you don't use the Adjustments panel then likely you may never discover this ........ which is a shame because it's incredibly convenient.

Thanks Gordon for coming back so fast..

You’re welcome David. This is one of those actions you only ever need to do once when setting up Photoshop and then, years later, have trouble remembering where Adobe hid it. I had to use both brain cells to remember where it was.

I had to bring it out of retirement.

It's such a convenient time saver.

I have always thought that it should be the default setting
