Re: cameras
Eventer, the proof is in the image taken with the each camera using the same lens. Compare the finer points such as pixelation, edge color crossover ect.
Sorry, just wanted to throw some more stuff in the game.

Re: cameras
hahaha OK, I am off to do as instructed. I must say, this camera has been the most fun thing I have bought in many years. Just the lead up has been a blast I know I will be enthralled with either of these cameras once it is mine.

Re: cameras
Just to toss in something else

You might want to check out the noise at higher ISOs between the Rebel and the 20D. The 20D looks very impressive at high ISOs and if you find yourself shooting in low light you will appreciate being able to bump up the ISO without having to fiddle with noise reduction software later. (The software is good but not as good as a noise-free image to begin with.)

But if I had the choice between the Rebel and a great lens and the 20D and a so-so lens, I'd choose the Rebel and the great lens any day.

I foresee Eventer going into meltdown before the day is done!

Re: cameras
Day???? Day???? I have the whole weekend to survive...

I "want" the 20D AND a great lens....I doubt if I "need" more than my Fuji....however....

The only other thing I wasn't crazy about on the Rebel xt was the size - it's small and doesn't sit in your hand as well as the 20D - of course it's a LOT lighter which is nice.

This is going to go down to the wire. Still studying everything madly as instructed. I can see poor little Pony Clubbers bouncing off all over the cross country course this weekend, while the coach mulls over lenses.

Re: cameras
Go ahead, get the 20D and a great lens (or two, or three...). You'll be happy with it so of course you 'need' it. Plus the 20D is black and everyone knows black cameras take better pictures

(I love my 10D, but I was in the camera store a couple of days ago trying out a lens and they put the lens on a 20D. I stood there holding it a while thinking OMG OMG OMG I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT. I think my eyes bulged out a bit, too.)

Re: cameras
A shopper with a mindset like my own! There you have it, the deciding factor, that's it - IT IS GOING TO BE THE BLACK 20D.

Re: cameras
Man, my camera sucks compared to all the cameras mentioned here (Olympus D-230 2 Megapixel). I have had it for a long time, and will get a better camera some time soon, but 1200 x 1600 still seems plenty big for me (I don't know near as much about cameras as the rest of you though.). Anyhow, I don't mind waiting since prices go down almost every minute. This 2 megapixel camera was over $200 when I bought it a few years ago, and now it is going for $26 on ebay (Sorry about the US currency, here is a currency converter http://www.xe.com/ucc/. )

One thing I can say about this old plastic bodied camera is that it is TOUGH. I dropped it quite a few times onto hard ground, and it isin flawless condition.

Re: cameras
Neither of the shops willing to do a bundle with lens etc could come up with a 20D in the near foreseeable future. I ended up getting the 20D with the basic 18-55 lens and an extreme 3 card. It's BEAUTIFUL. It's sitting on my bed beside me, I couldn't bear to leave it downstairs

I can't believe it's mine, its just gorgeous. I am going to use the basic lens to get started and save up for a horribly expensive 70-200mm lens which seems to be the ideal for 'shooting' horses.

It's just sitting here glowing, all black and shiny.

Nice one, you'll enjoy playing. The 18-55 isn't a bad all round lens.

Re: cameras
I just pushed the boat out and got a Canon 300d. It's got so many buttons on it I'm confused. I've been using it outside in auto mode and it does take a good snap but inside the flash is weak. Anyone else have this problem ?

Re: cameras
The flash has a few settings does it not? Maybe it needs to be on a different setting.
