Complete Photoshop in the Cloud
Is there a way I can use Photoshop from any internet capable computer without using an aid such as memory stick or DVD? |

CC is increasingly moving in this direction. If you are ready to pay Adobe for the cloud space you can keep Photoshop, and the new completely cloud based Lightroom synchronised with Adobe's cloud. Ah. I see. Does it need to be in PS format? Why not just make some JPG or similar exports readable on any machine? If you really need to show them raw Photoshop files, then it will involve logging in and downloading Photoshop to their computers - which will also mean logging out of Creative Cloud on your own machine first. As David says, wouldn't it be better to show them jpg files? |

David, Steve, I have been a little disingenuous with you. My 9 year old laptop is sure to conk out sooner or later and I will have to buy another one. It is a 32 bit Toshiba running Windows Xp and Photoshop CS3. However, when I buy a new laptop it will probably be 64 bit (they don't seem to sell new 32 bit laptops any more and I will not buy second hand). It will doubltless be running the latest version of Windows. I will have to buy a more recent version of Photoshop, as CS3 probably doesn't run well on 64 bit machines with Windows XX. A frugal (mean) person by nature I am trying to get around spending a large chunk of money by doing all the processing, for a fee, online, and was hoping that someone, somewhere, provides that service. Apparently not. Perhaps someone will fill that gap in the market. |

CS3 isn't going to run on modern machines. If you upgrade you will have to upgrade PS as well which means renting CC monthly as you can't buy anymore. It is possible you can get an old licensed copy of 4 / 5 / 6 which are all 64 bit compatible, which would be in keeping with your 'frugality'. 
Depending on your needs (correction vs. 'painting') there are a number of alternatives both free and commercial. None are of CC standard. Hi Michael Before you take the plunge into CC may I suggest that you have a serious look at Affinity Photo? It really is a superb piece of software and can easily hold its own against Photoshop. It also fits in well with your meanness - sorry, your frugality - as it is incredibly well priced. Outright purchase with none of this rental malarkey.
They also market an Illustrator competitor which I use for any vector work that I am doing. There will also be an InDesign competitor coming along later in the year. http://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/ _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

I am inclined to agree with Gordon here. I have very happily been using a combination of Affinity and CS6 for quite some time now. However sooner or later CS6 will no longer run with newer OS's and will become unusable. I recently subscribed to CC18 to stay more up to date and am frankly disappointed. It is five or six years since Adobe introduced CC and, to my surprise, CC18 does little that CS6 X doesn't do already. Sure they've tidied some things up and added some (for the most part gimmicky) extras, but the nuts and bolts are virtually unimproved. 3D is improved but Photoshop's 3D has always felt like a clumsy plugin rather than an integral part of the app and is painfully slow so it's 'improvement' doesn't ring my bell very loud. All Adobe's recent efforts seem to be in developing apps that lock you ever more tightly into the Adobe environment and cloud. Photoshop CC's main difference is it's 'integration' with Adobe cloud, Adobe image and other paid extras. The latest version of Lightroom is completely cloud based although the Lightroom 'Classic' is still available. Since these cloud based extras are of no interest to me and since I dislike the lack of a happily viable exit from subscription CC it is very possible that my new subscription may be short lived. Which brings me to Gordons alternative suggestion - Affinity. I have been using Affinity for at least half of all my work for the last two years. Affinity is an excellent substitute for PS for many things and far better than PS for certain things. However it also lacks things I really need or like that are in only PS. So, depending on how much Affinity changes and improves in the next couple of years, an update to CC will, one day, become inevitable. This is what made me decide to take out a subscription and give it a proper try. But, on the basis of using CC18 for the last few weeks, it has little to offer presently that I don't already have with Affinity and CS6 X. Affinity has one or two things that drive me mad and lacks a few things that really should be there but, after working for a couple of years with an app that is by definition non destructive, coming to CC18 with all the clunkiness of smart objects, (basically another bolt on) felt very old fashioned. I think it quite likely I may very soon unsubscribe again ........ until I have absolutely no choice but to use CC. I have gone on far, far too long. Time to stop. These things are very subjective but what I can say objectively with absolute certainty is that Affinity will offer you far, far more than CS3 currently does. Once you get used to the slightly different interface and slightly different way of doing things (about three and a half minutes) you will probably wonder why anyone should want to pay Adobe all that money. I’m pretty sure that Affinity has something like a 30 trial period. I’m slowly moving away from Adobe because of their attitude towards their customers. They refuse to help with my CS4 problems so I now use Hit Film instead of After Effects, Da Vinci Resolve instead of Premiere Pro, Capture One instead of Lightroom and Affinity Designer instead of Illustrator. All of this software is as good as Adobe’s offerings and, in many areas, far superior. It is also vastly cheaper with freebie versions that are extremely capable. _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

It's certainly worth a try. i've recorded courses on it for lynda.com and it's a fantastic piece of software - all the more so because it runs almost identically on the iPad as well. The interface is quirky, though, and will take some getting used to. |

I saw Gordon's remarks and purchased Affinity Photo 2 days ago -- so far VERY IMPRESSED --- it offers more live previews and being a new software is not restricted by legacy so many aspects are faster and simpler. With the exchange rate cost me $69.99 Canadian and I understand free updates. Quickly getting used to the interface. |

Hello, I also use Affinity Photo and find it very good and it makes me wonder how Adobe can justify their prices , for an amateur like myself Affinity Photo is good , it's just a shame their isn't much printed information, as a bonus it's now been reduced to £39 still with free updates !! You can't go wrong Mariner ,so dig deep and splash the cash , from another 'tight-wad' , regards from Neale. |

There's a very large quantity of online tutorials available. There is also a printed Affinity Photo Workbook. Nearly five hundred pages of description, tutorial and worked projects with online files available to try them. It is very basic for beginners but that is not a bad thing. I don't like video tutorials I prefer print and I find it useful as a reference manual. The forums are incredibly friendly and positive and there are Affinity developers present to listen and answer as well.
