Submit your images for the fourth edition DVD!
I'm in the process of putting the finishing touches to the fourth edition of How to Cheat, and it's been suggested to me that I should include a selection of images sent in by users of this forum.

Seems like a great idea to me! So if any of you are willing to submit images, here's what's involved:

1. Please send images direct to me, at photos@plin.com rather than posting them to the forum.

2. Bear in mind what people are going to want. I'm not looking for closeups of flowers (sorry, Marty) but images that can be used in montages: so landscapes, empty rooms, interesting skies, textures, animals and unusual objects (with clipping paths if possible) and so on.

3. By sending me your images, you agree that they will be included as royalty free photographs on the DVD that accompanies the book. In other words, anyone buying the book can make whatever use of them they like, with no obligation to credit you when they're used. You will receive no payment for the images, except my gratitude! I'll make sure, though, that your name appears with the images on the DVD.

4. Don't overwhelm me with your back catalogs! I'm after really good stuff. If you're not sure, then by all means send me low res images in the first instance and I'll let you know which ones I want.

5. On a bit of a tight deadline here. You've got until March 23rd to pick the cream of the crop - but please don't leave it all until the last minute!

What resolution do you want?

When you say clipping path, is that a layer mask with the outline of the objects? Is it the same as in the "500 Model Poses Book"?
If so, can you briefly descibe how to do it the right way? I know you are short for time, but I want to do it right the first time.

I'd love to help you Steve!

Can they be TIFF or PSD files or would you prefer JPEGs?

Re: Submit your images for the fourth edition DVD!
Good questions!

1. The resolution I'm after is roughly what would be captured by a 5 megapixel camera. So around 3072 x 2048, or higher if you wish.

2. I was thinking of a path created with the Pen tool, as these can be saved into JPEGs; layer masks can't, so have to be saved as either PSD or TIFF files. I'd rather have JPEGs!

How about JPEG2000?

Okay, I have a 6 megapixel camera, but the highest resolution I can get is 2592 x 1944 at 180 dpi. Can you use that size? I'm not sure that is the quality you are looking for.

Yes, that's a good quality! Incidentally, it's only the pixel count that matters: the '180 dpi' is only relevant when you want to print the image.

Then count me in!

I'll send them at 72 dpi. I guess just send me back the one's you want for higher res.

Is that okay?
