Challenge 250: The cabinet of curiosities
I've given a lot of thought to this week's Challenge, and come to a couple of conclusions. First, I completely agree with Nick Curtain's comments about competitiveness, which is why the title is reverting to its original description as a Challenge rather than a Contest, which gives a misleading idea of its purpose. I don't remember when or why it changed, but it makes sense to change it back. I also liked Vibeke's excellent suggestion of an ongoing piece of artwork that would be passed from member to member, each one adding an additional element. But this would take a while to set up and to work out the details of how it operates, so I'm going to save it for the 5th anniversary of the Friday Challenge, which falls in July. Interesting to see that the first entry for the first ever Friday Challenge - Boil this egg - came from Maiden, who's still a regular participant. I think a long service medal may be overdue, Becky! In the end, I've decided to follow Paul2007's suggestion. I'd like you to build a museum exhibit showing as many objects from previous Friday Challenges as you're able to include. They can all be your own work, or chosen from other people's entries; the museum can be an old fashioned mahogany case, or a modern gallery space. However you choose to approach it, I'm looking for realism here: pay close attention to lighting, perspective and scale! No starting image this week. After all, you have 250 to choose from in the archives. |

China, I think Steve might be busy, so to assist on second question: Yes, you should post general questions like these to other threads I think. I'll Leave that to Steve or others to clarify where and what is best. For your second question , check out our advice this week from Gordon and I on a specifc question from dwindt. Gordon's solution is very clear and concise:- Gordon wrote: >>>>>>>>> dwindt, Flatten your image then go to Image>Image Size and use a value between 800 - 900 pixels for the longest side. I generally use 850 pixels. Then go to File>Save For Web. In the quality box select a value that will give you a file just below 100Kb. That should do it. Gordon _____________________ Jota/Trevor wrote: >>>>>>>>> Using File save - "Save for Wed and Devices...", I usually get it to a max allowed of 97k by tweaking the "Percentage" down until 97k. You can adjust the other parametes from default too of course, but this works enough for these posts I find. I start with image size around 25x17cm 240 pixels/inch. Others here also post larger image to Photobucket and add link, see examples this week. Others have I believe sent posts on this topic in the past with more details. I didn't do a curio cabinet but this was the next best thing. Congratulations Steve on reaching this milestone! The first link is an enlargement of the image. The 2nd link is an avi. Warning though, it runs for approximately 3.5 minutes. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa164/tooquilos/CCL-Large.jpg ]http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/aa164/tooquilos/?action=view¤t=CCLsmall.flv] _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |

Anna and Gordon, great ideas how to present. Anna ,always love your flash animation. This avi video is fantastic and a joy and I have the chance to see some of your earlier work before I joined Great. I have some ideas how to present some of my stuff (much less to scope for me than you guys). Later ........ Take it easy, Trevor |

Anna, Absolutely brilliant. Don't know where you get your ideas or do it in such a short time. You were truly inspired this time. I can see you in that bedroom, if you could stand any more renovations. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Re: Challenge 250: The cabinet of curiosities
Hi China Boy The idea is to use old challenges, as you haven't been a member for long, you won't be able to use your own, like Anna. But you can use photographs from previous challenges, like GJB. Open old Challenges, and download the image Steve supplied. You pick the ones you like. Them put them together in a montage of some sort. Steve's suggestion was to make it into a museum, where you can walk and see the things hanging on the wall, or in museum cases. As with all challenges it is really your choice what you do. Find some fun way to put together a lot of photographs from old challenges. If you can try to 250 into it. Do ask again, if this isn't clear. Also if you wait a few days, you can see what other members do. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |
