I can't quite believe that you modelled the whole thing! Terrific!

Was his overly literal interpretation of battledress ("The Bertha Bone- buster" pat.pending) the final straw?

I am well aware that we have a resident expert who can point out all the inaccuracies and inconsistencies in this little piece of silliness .......

...... but I am rather hoping he won't .......

Re: Challenge 748: The Ely radiator
Exceptionally good results from everyone this week: well done!

Regrettably I have a serious health issue currently, and therefore unable to do the 8 to 12 hour animation that I would normally do.

So no animation, just a static

hahaha Josephine..a 16th century Davros!!

Thank you David. I combined around 20 different shapes and elements to make the heater. Quite challenging in some parts but I enjoyed the challenge.

The Ferris Wheel is wonderful! Mariner, you have nailed it, once again!!

Very funny, Josephine.

There is actually a lot of Photoshop in this despite all the film clips.

Let's hope your health improves soon, Michael.

Yes, that radiator definitely belongs on the rubbish tip!

Great imaginations everybody. David, you blew me away with your radial engine.

Re: Challenge 748: The Ely radiator
This week’s first central heating engineer was DavidMac, with a splendid modification into a coffee machine, using last week’s Cap’n Lee as barista. Utterly magnificent in every way, David. I like the conversion into a 9-cylinder engine in the second entry - particularly the slight variation in the gauges and pipework. Gordon - would this fly?

A fine incorporation into a steam-powered car from lwc, with subtle animation - the steam is good, but it’s the flame beneath the boiler that really does it for me. I laughed out loud at the second entry - really funny animation. And I enjoyed the homage to 2001 in the third entry - particularly the beam of light running around the base of the radiator.

Elegant chess pieces from Frank, beautifully decorated with his and hers crowns. Small point: if you’re going to use a chessboard that has a short depth of field, then your king really should blur along with it.

A warm setting from Vibeke, the radiator looking quite at home in the corner of this room. Good perspective.

Good to see GKB's dalek wedding again after all these years - I see the groom has got a new bride, but kept the same bouquet (as far as I remember). There’s economy for you.

A total 3D remodelling from tooquilos, which must have been a huge amount of work. But it’s all put to good use in the animated version, with the radiator spinning through a variety of environments. I really like how that whirling pipe knocks the wooden supports out of the roller coaster. Fabulous.

Really funny work from Linda Eckert - a simple montage, but the character is so well chosen and the fit is perfect. Great to see my background in there, too.

A Chinese makeover from Mariner, who has spruced up the radiator with a major rebuild, and added some neat oriental elements to it. The dragon fits perfectly, and that’s a subtle curve on the lettering. Very appealing.

A return to Captain Lee from Josephine Harvatt, this time wearing half a tank. Now that should keep his legs toasty. I like the new helmet. And I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of the Captain.

It’s back to the scrapyard for michael sinclair, dumping the radiator where it can hopefully be repurposed by Wall-E. You really should try some less complicated clouds, Michael. Hope you recover soon.

The radiator shrinks to the size of a wine cork in srawland's entry - is it self-popping? A funny and touching animated version, very neatly edited with a great choice of soundtracks. And your friend Tony has done the business once again. Good choice of name on the bottle ('ivrogne' is French for drunk), but that title really deserves a more appropriate apostrophe:

Thank you Steve. I really enjoyed this week. Funny that Captain Lee should have left me so uninspired last week when he was the challenge and fit so perfectly this week when he wasn't!

I did like this from David. The only thing that would make it look more real would be the radiator vanes being horizontal rather than vertical but it looks good - now if he had just installed it in an aircraft ..... with a propeller ....

Today's completely useles bit of information to wow your chums at a dinner party - all radial engines have an uneven number of cylinders to ensure smooth running with minimal vibration. On a five-cylinder engine the firing order is 1, 3, 5, 2, 4, and back to cylinder 1.

There are lots instances of radial engines that have an even number of cylinders but these consist of two or more banks of uneven numbers of cylinders.

One of the most powerful radial engines ever built was the the Pratt & Whitney R-4360, a 28-cylinder four-row air-cooled radial engine. Power output from one of these could go up to 3,500 hp depending on variant.

Hello, is anyone still awake out there?
