Re: Challenge 749: Guess the weight of the jockey
Thank you all for your comments. Im enjoying dabbling with 3D.

Ive been doing heaps of tutorials Gordon on C4D but I don't feel confident to do a challenge as yet. It's a real learning curve. Im using Element 3D to create all the objects. It is a plug in for AE brought out by Video Copilot. It has it's limitations but for the time being it suits my purposes with some compromising.

Dwint, I realised after I posted last night that Id forgotten to add the image I spoke about duh!

Sara, the girl fits into the image perfectly. Well done.

What a perfect fit into the chair Linda!

During my search for material on the operations of the steam drill that Epstein's sculpture is perch upon (yes, i'm still tinkering with it) I came across this site. Lwc, you like steampunk, take a look at this site. Very interesting.

Thanks dwindt!

Great find, I had a quick look around... some very interesting things. I will spend a lot of time there in the near future.

Re: Challenge 749: Guess the weight of the jockey
First to enter the race this week was DavidMac, with a splendid mounting of the chair onto a saddle - and with Captain Lee making a guest appearance. It looks comfortable to me! A very adept remodelling of the chair into parliamentary benches in the second entry - getting the perspective right on the further rows must have been tricky, with those awkward armrests. A most enjoyable rant, too. (Small technical point: the benches in the Commons are green, those in the Lords are red.)

A rather fine ejection seat from GKB, with a remarkably calm (and fireproof) horse. I like the parachute - and you have some very fine flames there.

I covet Frank's man cave, beautifully remodelled with a cunningly built-in beer tap. A fine set of posters, too, and a cute remote control holder. Is that a row of Pink Floyd album covers on the back wall?

A truly magnificent construction from dwindt, with a gloriously imagined flying machine incorporating the radiators from last week. This really is an extraordinarily detailed and adept piece of work. Fantastic! Is it all built from scratch?

I laughed out loud at lwc's entry, with a sitting horse (now that must have been tricky) gently nodding. The rearing stallion in the background really adds to the scene. Very nicely composed, Loyd, and beautifully realised. Top job. A very apt setting for the beer sign in the second entry.

A sepia Victorian setting from tooquilos, set in a room with extreme perspective - that must have caused problems. I like the rocking chair in the coloured animated version, as well as the outdoor setting in the second scene (and I recognise that weathervane). She sits sidesaddle really well in the third scene - and the dog really adds life to it. I like your remodelled weighing mechanism!

A well composed entry from srawland, with a well chosen angle for the woman in the chair. A couple of technical points: the top of the coffee machine should be sloping up to the right, not down; and take another look at the position of the woman’s foot. Her heel can’t be behind the chair leg!

Linda Eckert’s entry has a well chosen man in a suit - perfect pose, very neatly fitting into the chair. A couple of issues: I’d stick with one cake, as having too looks awkwardly balanced and obviously duplicated (and they could really do with a plate). And that man would be greatly helped by a shadow behind his leg:

A fine new setting from Mariner, with the weighing equipment turned into a table and the mechanism itself moved onto the lawn. Beautiful reflections in that polished surface, and perfectly integrated shadows. I wonder, though, if the perspective of the balustrade quite matches that of the chair? Something’s niggling at me there.

Tremendous work this week.

Thanks Steve. Didn't have too much time for this one. Hopefully that will change for the hydrofoil image this week.

Yes I realised my blunder just as I was finishing. By then I had sized and placed about 50 seats and simply couldn't face up to masking and colouring them all. Had I realised sooner I could have coloured my 'master' chair and then duplicated from there.

Wisdom after the event ..............

You are right. I spent ages trying to get that chair into perspective and finally lost patience.

Thanks Steve.

A bit of trial and error in that one... was fun!

Strangely the thing that popped out at me was the bottle. I feel we are looking down on the top too much. The elipse is too deep.

Mind you, that's a very subjective reaction ...... and quite possibly wrong!

Re: Challenge 749: Guess the weight of the jockey
Well done everybody.

Thanks for the lovely comments Steve. Yes, it was all done from scratch. During the confusion and mess of pipes and wood structure, I started losing hope cause I couldn't find photos to link the pipes etc. I had to open PS and Modo along side each other and start bending. Such a small problem that nearly set me back.

The wings are ironing boards. Initially, I was going to leave the legs on but that meant trying to fashion some sort of landing wheels. I tried to leave a hint of an iron burn foot print on the left wing to indicate that they were ironing boards.

Yes, David, I think so too. I was too involved with bigger problems to pay any attention to it.

Thank you, Steve. I don't really have the time right now to spend on this as I would have liked.

But don't let that divert from a beautifully executed piece of work.
