Re: Challenge 760: Angling fish
Thanks guys, I noticed a mistake and hopefully corrected it - the fish glow should only have been on when she's fishing and the bubbles were out of sync in one area. Easy to miss with many frames and tired eyes.

Thanks Michael.

You never cease to amaze me with what can be achieved with just two or three frames.

Thank you Michael,

I'm with Gordon on this two framer... the color palette is great, a very nice animation.

Re: Challenge 760: Angling fish
I'm supposed to be studying as my exam is tomorrow.

No time for an animation but I did manage this quickie:

Fortunately, fish batting was only a brief fad.

Re: Challenge 760: Angling fish
First to fry the fish this week was DavidMac, with a rather fine balancing act. Nicely done, for a ‘quickie’. A beautifully intertwined second entry, though - there’s something really touching about this piece.

Eco destruction from Ant Snell, with some wilful chiselling. I like the energy here - but why is the chisel tip located so far from the break?

A splendid quartet from lwc, with some excellent water and lighting effects. The random sparkles are surprisingly effective. Excellent rippling distortion in the second entry - and I like the glowing tips. A really funny third entry, again with beautiful animation - although there’s something curious about the bending nose-cum-fishing rod thing, which seems to be in two places at once. Not sure about the blackout in the fourth entry; shouldn’t those tips still glow in the darkness? And an interesting meta-image in the fifth entry - are we looking over your shoulder? And I’ve been watching the sixth entry for some minutes now, and don't think the seal is ever going to catch the fish.

Ben Mills is back on form with a rather fetching mermaid, nicely illuminated by the glowing fish tip. Great background, too, a very appealing composition.

Mystical magic from Tom, featuring sacred geometry - a recurring theme, I notice - and a very dramatic motion blur. You have a way with sparkles, don’t you.

Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong accompany GKB's fishing gnome, with a wide selection of wildlife floating around. I like the fact that the background is video, rather than a still image. I originally had a bit of a problem with how such a tall fish could be had from such a shallow pond, then on second viewing noticed how you’d tucked it behind a rock. Neat.

Perfectly constructed animation from Frank, with the glowing tip, opening mouth, moving eye and sharp teeth all contributing to the effect. The rising bubbles provide a consistent background. I like how the fish bulges after it’s eaten. You’re getting good at this, Frank! Just one very minor point: I think you mean “dessert”.

What looks like a giant squid from tooquilos, finding some illuminated treasure. Lovely image. Fine typography in the animated version - a really like how the fish is fished from the glass case, and hurled from the boat. A rousing underwater sequence, and the real divers work remarkably well. You need a shadow under that treasure chest!

Neptune catches some spiky supper in michael sinclair’s entry: great teeth, and good body movement on both. I think all that remains of the original fish is its fishing rod.

A cute bat replacement from srawland - I like how the fish is very much secondary to the action. Best of luck with your exam.

Some finely-wrought jewellery from Mariner, with enamelled fish and some intricate gold tracery. I think you’d have been better off replacing the texture inside the box rather than cloning it out - it looks too fuzzy, which detracts from the necklace. I’m also concerned that we seem to be looking straight down on the necklace from above, when the front of the case suggests we’re seeing it from a lower angle. I think this could be resolved by simply adding a slight vertical component to the gold tracery:

Re: Challenge 760: Angling fish
Thanks Steve. I wondered, initially, about that very problem but then I thought of the old comedy sketch of the guy pulling all sorts of unlikely objects such as a stepladder out of a briefcase and realised that that would be the joke with the fish.

Agreed

I think cutting out the front of the box gave a false impression. Here is the full version. I didn't use it because obviously the jewelry would have to shrink a lot.

What a lovely bizarre idea! Most unexpected.

Good luck with the exams Sara.

Not exactly brain surgery Steve. Funnily the hardest part was getting rid of the human acrobat so as to insert the fish.

There’s something really touching about this piece.

Thanks Steve.

It wasn't really intended to be taken too seriously .... but, yes, it turned out unexpectedly quite sweet.

Thank you, David. Finding the appropriate starting image is what took me the longest in creating this image. A bat's handle is much thicker than the fish's rod.
