Challenge 775: Overhead lighting
We've visited the Ile d'Aix before on the Friday Challenge, but never set foot inside the small museum. Set in a warren of tunnels and corridors, it outlines the history of this French fortification.

Some of the rooms are lit by a single hole in the middle of the roof, producing some interesting lighting conditions. One of them has been turned into an art exhibit, but to my mind this is a rather half-hearted use of the space.

Can you suggest how this artwork could be enhanced?

High res is here.

Changed - yes of course. But enhanced? I find the utter simplicity of this rather lovely.

The shadows are quite surprisingly hard. As a matter of pure curiosity, is that just natural skylight (it certainly has suggestions of blue) or is there a light hidden in the hole?

David, it's just Steve's cheap old camera (again).

Re: Challenge 775: Overhead lighting
If this was a movie set I would be tempted to 'smoke up' and let it settle into a light haze. Frankly though it's a bit hackneyed and obvious.

I was rather baffled by your image Ant. I kept coming back to it trying to work out what it was all about.

Suddenly, very late in the day, the penny has finally dropped. The top is pivotal ....... er so to speak. Very clever.

Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. I am finding myself rather lost with this one. The muse is not musing.

I think I shall quietly have to leave things here.

Re: Challenge 775: Overhead lighting
Just as I was posting "Jaws" my wife came in and peeked over my shoulder. I showed her Steve's original and said "I am really struggling with this one. I feel completely in the dark."

So she looks, and laughs, and quick as flash says "Why don't you close the hole in the top? Then you really will be!".

So I got her to take a quick snap ....... and here I am.

Re: Challenge 775: Overhead lighting
A curious aspect of this image is that it's nigh on impossible to scale. The object in the centre is no help either as its size and function are, as yet, undetermined.

I am wondering if it hasn't been populated by giants so far. In Ant's case this must be entirely intentional. However, every entry so far has populated the room with people whose size would make the passage a crawl space. This could, I suppose, be the case with a larger full height entry behind the camera (unless visitors are expected to crawl, which strikes me as unlikely).

I have made myself small enough (just) to walk in the passage on the left, but I am wondering what it is about this image that has led the other entries so far to presume the space to be so tiny - which it, of course, it could just be.

Oooh, I really like "Jaws"! Wish that I had thought of it.

As far as I'm concerned, scale can be whatever you want it to be in the Photoshop phantasy world.
