I think the Greeks could have used this horse to rescue Helen from Troy. Far more effective than the clunky old wooden horse they had! Beautifully done Jo

Such great entries this week. The coat of arms and the Golden Book are brilliant. Michael, I love your carousel horses.

splendid entries so far!... better get this one in before someone else comes up with the same idea...

He fits so splendidly! The change of the mane from gold to hair is what really makes this. I wish I had thought of that too.

What a splendid pair!

Thank you kindly - it was the triumph of hope over despair

Cheers, David. The mane worked well with the painted cover image.
Here’s a cast-off from my toy horse pool..

Why cast off? It's perfect! So simple and beautifully done. He just belongs there.

Re: Challenge 779: The carousel horse
Anna. Aside from the lovely atmospheric backdrops what impresses me most about this is not the 'big stuff' it's something much more basic - the beautiful gold finish on the horse. How did you do it? I just tried the classic double 'S' curve technique and although I could get there it had none of the smoothness or naturalness of yours.

You're a brave fellow Frank! A horse galloping (or trotting or walking come to that) is one the hardest things to animate or even paint, as one can see from many early paintings. Very charming. Love the simple conversions to his mare and foals.

Re: Challenge 779: The carousel horse
Thank you David. It was a case of trial and error in order to get the 'right' gold that I wanted.

I selected just the white parts of the body and grouped them. Then added a curves adjustment with the "s" then added another curves adjustment to get the gold. Ive attached some screen shots to show you.

Re: Challenge 779: The carousel horse
Thank you Anna for taking the trouble to send that reply. Very educational and useful. In the end you have been much simpler than my attempts. Normally when trying to get a metallic finish I convert the image to black and white, reduce the contrast to a quite tight range of greys and apply those adjustments to the layer. Then apply the S curve twice or even three times to this new flattened layer. It would never have occurred to me to try the S curve directly as you have. But of course it works because the horse is white to start with. Very clever.

Anna, This very much reminds me of the horse I made for my daughter when she was just 4 years old. She is now 28 and expecting her own baby boy in the new year who will no doubt inherit this one day.

Oh Ant, that is superb. And you made it all? Magical! Look at that gorgeous wood grain and mane. Your grandchild will have amazing adventures on this horse.
I have a rocking zebra and my granddaughter has used it to visit many kingdoms and realms over the years as it has the ability to enter portals and gallop at an incredible speed! It was even instrumental in capturing the red flag pirates and banishing them from one of the realms!

Just beautiful. It's not just that I love continuities of this sort - the horse is just gorgeous!!
