Nothing brilliant, but I'm having fun learning the program.

Excellent work, John! That firework fits in perfectly - you've obviously got the Blend If technique mastered.

Good colour change in the second pic - you've picked up all the right shades. Couple of points: that purple is a little too saturated for reality… and I can still see a bit of yellow glow on the makeshift scabbard! Otherwise great, though.

Welcome to the forum! And please share your interest in puzzles with us - it's a bit of a passion of mine

Steve

Thanks for the critique Steve, I recently purchased a Wacom tablet so I have a bit of color experimentation to get through.

As for the puzzles, I started in high school with a standard 3x3 Rubik's and started collecting others after graduation. My current collection stands at about 70 sequential puzzles that range from 2x2s to 5x5s to Meffert's new Dogic release. I also have the early model of the see-through Jackpot (I think it's called the Platypus now).

I managed to beat the old world record for solving the 3x3 by about 2 seconds (mine was 20.something and the old record was 22.95). The new record is in the mid-teens.

I wouldn't have guessed a fellow puzzler would be the owner of this site, what's your history with puzzles?

Great work - you've really got the hang of this! In the window example, though, I'd like to have seen some evidence of glass there. Perhaps a view of a room interior, at about 10% opacity? Would make all the difference, I feel. And with the hands image, remember you need to bend the shadow to fit the angle of hte hands! The fingertips are touching the keys, so the shadow needs to be directly under them. It can move further from the hand, as the hand moves away from the surface.

Puzzles… I've just finished a new book, called Dad Stuff, which has a section on puzzles of the cerebral kind. Really enjoyed researching these, especially since I've been collecting them for many years!

One of my favourites:

John's mother has three children - the youngest is called April, the middle one is called May. What's the name of the eldest?

John, because if thats his mother, then he must be one of the children I love those.

A plane is flying over Scotland, when a storm kicks in and their plane gets hit by lightning, the plane goes to the ground and crashes on the border between England and Scotland, where do they bury the survivors?

Haha Steve that's naughty.

I would have said June but then John would have gotten a complex about being named after a girl

OK, since we're following this thread…

A man goes into a hardware store to buy some items for his house. "How much is one?" he asks. "Three pounds," comes the reply. "How much for twelve?" "Six pounds." "And how much for two hundred?" "Nine pounds."

There are no bulk discounts involved. What's he buying?

Some items for his house?

If a red house is made out of red bricks,
and a blue house made out of blue bricks,
Whats a Green house made out of?

Green bricks. A greenhouse, however, is made of glass or perspex

House numbers. The number "12" is six pounds, the number "200" is nine pounds and so on.

Lexus, you don't bury the survivors, you congratulate them on not dying.

John

No, but they'd have to, or they wouldn't have any stairs.
