Yosemite National Park infrared
I've been on my hols going around some of the National Parks in Arizona and California shooting infrared images for a book that I am working on. I thought I would post the occasional image for all to see the effects of shooting IR pics with a converted Canon 70D.

This image of Cathedral Rocks is a composite of three RAW files processed in Capture One Pro 9 RAW editing software then stitched in Autopano Giga. Imported into Photoshop as a 16 bit file it was further processed in SilverFX Pro 2 (free download from Google) for Black and White conversion then Dfine 2 for noise reduction. The final file came out at 1.6 Gb ... you could almost hear the creaks and groans from my trusty iMAC.

The image was shot at the western end of Yosemite on the Northern Loop Road. Because of the heavy snow last winter the Merced River has flooded some of the meadows resulting in lots of reflection images this year. Both Bridal Veil Falls and Yosemite Falls are quite spectacular this year.

Gordon, that is stunning. The reflections are like a mirror. Beautiful.

I also visited Joshua Tree National Park some 250 miles west of Phoenix in the Mojave Desert; an amazing landscape - just watch out for the rattlesnakes!

Tunnel View is a particularly spectacular view of the Yosemite Valley from the southern access road into the park. On the left is El Kapitan with Half Dome in the centre and Bridal Veil Falls in full flow on the right.

Jamestown is an old gold mining town about an hour's drive west of Yosemite where they have a preserved 'Wild West' steam train that runs at weekends in the summer. In true American spirit I explained the kind of photography that I wanted to do and the immediate answer was 'sure, go ahead and shoot from wherever you want'.

Intriguing .......... I find it much more interesting and unexpected with nature than mechanics. The first of new series with spiky white leaves and black sky is really startling. Like frost on window pane.
