Does it matter what country we're from? Steve's book is international and I don't see the point of this poll, Einstein, especially as Steve has been so kind as to provide this website for us.

But if you really need to know I'm British.

I think you'll find a fair spread of people from across the world here. But as a general rule of thumb, people who post messages at 4am your time are probably British, unless they're just insomniacs who only come out at night, or both (like David Asch).

Ok, Ok,
I just get a little nervous when I feel like I'm representing the people of America every time I post

Don't think of yourself as American, think of yourself as part of the global village.

There certainly seems to be an obsession on this forum at the moment about nationality, I would imagine that most of us would say that we are denizens of the Earth, a few thousand miles round the corner from The Sun?? Who needs barriers??

Einstein, I hate to ask this question, but how old are you? (sorry but curiosity got the better of me )

I was wondering how long it would take me acting childish for someone to ask

I'm 13

I certainly wont say anything patronising about how I guessed you were that young
It's great though that a 13yr old would submit great images to a website dominated by, (don't shoot me for this one guys) 30 somethings from the UK!
So, I take it you may be getting Steve's new book then?

More like 93 million miles, actually.

Space is big, really big...

But I certainly agree that we don't need barriers.

I guess so, for sufficiently large values of 'few'

Hey when I go shopping, I only spend a "few" pennies on Dior shoes! Does that still apply?

Re: [Poll] Just to be sure I'm not the only American here.
Don't worry Einstein, you are not totally alone on this side of the ocean. There are several of us on this board that do not claim the UK as home, we just aren't quite as active yet. If you click on the user's names you can see where most people call home. I find this board to be sociologically fascinating, even though I find myself scratching my head wondering what in the world they are talking about.

I find your love of America at 13 to be very interesting. I think you will find that the attitude that you express is what gets allot of Americans into trouble with the people of other nations around the world. The notion that we are the best, which implies to others that they are inferior to us and they have less to offer the world. We tend to exude arrogance when the most we have done to EARN that arrogance is to happen to be born in a particular place on earth.

I would like to encourage you to find out just how American you really are. When did your first ancestor arrive on the shores of this country? Do you know? America is a conglomerate of all the other nations of the world, you know, those ones we tend to consider "inferior". Don't you think it would be interesting to find out which nations your ancestors came from and how long your particular family line has been calling themselves "Americans"? My mother's earliest ancestor arrived in 1884 from Germany, about 4 generations ago. My father's earliest ancestor arrived in 1660 from France, about 12 generations ago. Now, if you ask someone from the UK how many generations their family has lived there I'll bet it's allot more than my family has lived here.

It's fine to love our country, and I am glad that you do. It's just my opinion that we Americans could use a few doses of humility in the interest of getting along with our neighbors and realizing the whole world has allot to offer. We really are children of God first, and Americans second.

I understand, I didn't fully mean all I said, I was just sortav imitating the average American attitude towards things.
Truly though, Americans are like children; quick to fight, strong sense of right and wrong, pride in our accomplishments, inflated ego, overactive curiosity etc.
Overall though, I am proud to be American

Re: [Poll] Just to be sure I
I'm not sure of my heritage - but I suspect there is a good deal of Irish and Welsh on my father's side. I've often pondered on the idea of calling oneself British as that implies a colonial sense of English ownership of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, however to call oneself English is often thought to sound arrogant and nationalistic and in line with football hooligans and neo-fascists. So on my passport it says British, however I was born in England, and in my heart I live where I lay my hat (as the song goes)

Are you really 13? I am really impressed with your response! Glad you took my post in the vein it was intended. It can be difficult to express one's feelings in writing when you can't see the expressions and vocal tones to go along with it. Hope I didn't come across as too "preachy". I really enjoy this board and would hate to see boundaries become an issue.

Now that I have spent all this time on this subject I guess I really could have spent the time on this week's challenge. As it is I haven't even begun yet.
