Photoshop CS2
Well, the cat's officially out of the bag now, so I can reveal all. Photoshop CS2 is a fantastic upgrade, with some truly remarkable new features, including…

Image Warp. Finally - envelope distortion! It's part of Free Transform, which means you can distort straight onto the canvas, rather than through a dialog. You can start with a preset, if you like - they're the same as Text Warp - and then swithc to Custom, which gives you a 3x3 grid in which you can drag Béziers on corner handles, or any of 8 edge handles, or 4 internal handles. It's really, really good, and you've going to love it.

Vanishing Point Filter. This one's absolutely unbelievable. Mark four points on a rectangle within the image - a window, say - and a perspective grid is drawn between them. You can then drag that grid out to fill, say, an entire side of the house. Then, hold command or control and drag a handle, and it will tear off a new grid at right angles to the first, in perspective. There's a marquee selection selection tool, which draws marquees in perspective: you can move objects around, in perspective - even around corners! Wow! It's mindboggling to watch.

Lens Correction. Yes, at last, correcting for barreling, pincushioning and keystoning. Very slick, very efficient, absolutely the most useful thing to go with a digital camera.

Smart Objects. Clever one, this: import files from Illustrator and any transforms or distorts will always refer to the original file, so there's no degradation of the image. You can also make Smart Objects from any group of layers in PS, so you can tweak and distort as much as you like.

Smart Guides. Just like in Illustrator, for lining up layers. Guides pop up when layers are aligned. Very useful.

Animation palette. Not a huge feature, but it's now moved over into PS from ImageReady. (The whole of ImageReady will eventually follow.)

Layer selection can now be done on the artwork, by command/control-dragging with the Move tool - just as you'd select files on the desktop, or in Illustrator. Also, you can now select multiple files and move them around without linking them - so it's a temporary selection.

Plus… several new blur filters; new Smart Sharpen filter,; great Noise Reduction filter for jpegs/digital camera shots; new spot healing tool (no need to define a source point); new Exposure adjustment.

Adobe Bridge The File Browser is now a separate application, with a load of new features. Now works with all Adobe CS2 applications, and is a lot slicker than before.

All in all, this is a really good upgrade. Worth it for Image Warp alone, and the Vanishing Point filter is a serious bonus! I know you'll all be reading about this wherever you can, but thought you might like to see it here as well.

Steve

Re: Photoshop CS2
Is there any chance that someone might give me their cs license after they get cs2? PLZ!

No release date has been set so far. I'd expect about a couple of months, but that's just a guess.

And hey, 'ungeeky' is a real compliment!

According to Amazon the release date is April 28, at least for the entire Creative Suite.

I just stumbled across this Vanishing Point tutorial from Layers Magazine (formerly Mac Design). Thought you all might be interested - looks pretty cool!

There are also some video bits and bobs on the NAPP site: http://www.photoshopuser.com/photoshopcs2.html

Not sure what the Shape Blur is all about though...

Re: Photoshop CS2
I like the look of the vanishing point and warp filters. I can't wait for those.

I really couldn't tell, though, just how good the noise reduction is in those videos. Does anyone (Steve ) know how it stacks up against other noise reduction software like neatimage? I know this is probably a bit off topic for this forum, but I'm anxious to know if I can start bumping up my ISO to 1600 and beyond....

Not trying to nag, but can someone answer my question, yes or no (preferably yes)

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings E, but I don't think that would be possible. When you upgrade PS you actually have to enter your "Legacy" serial number as well as the upgrade serial. With Adobe's activation system, PS has to connect to the Adobe servers which activates the program. Otherwise it stops working after 30 days.

Then there's the whole 'ethics' thing...

Re: Photoshop CS2
Ok,
anyway the ''ethics thing' is the whole reason that I don't just go out and download it from some warez site.

however I thought that since you are buying a licsense for a different piece of software, that you could legally give me the liscense
for the other piece of software that you are not using.

but if not then I'll just keep working with elements, at least I'll be able to use cs2 for 30 days
