A few questions about the book
Hello, I found this link while browsin' true some pages and it looks to me that this would be a great book for me to learn. But i have some questions regarding the book; -Do you get good explanations about all the tools in PS? -Will i be able to make nice wallpapers etc with the information in the book? -Will i be able to make photo manipulations like for example, makin' a picture of a friend and puttin' him on a picture with a celebrity without actually seeing it? I use this program more to amuse me instead of proffesional reasons, i love photo manipulations and makin' nice wallpapers and sigs etc. The only problem i have is that i can't get them to the level of being respected. With the photo manipulations like the example above, i never get it right that you don't see that the person was put on the picture ![]() I Hope to get some answers! Best regards |

Re: A few questions about the book
HS, I bought the book a week or so ago and know that there's quite a bit in the book that will help you make a person 'fit' into a scene. Right now thinking of the section with the actress who portrayed 'Scully' (didn't watch enough to know her real name) and what's his face in 4 weddings and a funeral... So, it really depends on you... working the examples and tweaking them to fit your needs... (because, no two pictures are the same... unless they're copies... ![]() _________________ Drawing attention to what otherwise might be overlooked... emphasizing things that matter. |

Re: A few questions about the book
Before I got the book I'd only ever used PS twice and that was only to resize a couple of images... Now, although I don't know if my images are 'respected' I have a lot of fun making them and in a way that's what really matters after all there's always gonna be one person (at least) who likes what you do! The Friday Challenges have helped me improve a lot since I first got the book. ![]() _________________ We made a promise we swore we'd always remember, No retreat no surrender |

Re: A few questions about the book
This book is only going to improve your skills and knowledge of PS. I don't believe there is a better book out there can has the capability to teach the spectrum of information that you can get out of "How To Cheat". I bought the book before I even started using PS and it gave me a great starting point to begin using PS effectively. Don't cheat ypurself, get "How to Cheat in PS". It will be the best money you spend learning this program! _________________ Steve Mac |

Re: A few questions about the book
Just go and look at the Friday Challenes for the last few weeks. You will see all ranges of expertise (and creativity). I have been playing with PS since version 3 I think. I never got so good as in the last couple of months. I bought the book at Christmas (a present from myself to me) and I just finnished it this week-end. It is FILLED with tutorials, with a great CD, exercices, etc. Best of all you do it at your own pace, and can jump from one section to the other (although I don't recommend it as there is a "build-up" in the use of the different techniques). Stop fooling around an go get it. Then come here and show us what you do. And Born2Run images are respected. ![]() _________________ |

Re: A few questions about the book
Yes there is a good section on selections. I have learned a lot from this book. Of course a wacom tablet also aids in selections. I found using the mouse very awkward although there are those who do a remarkable job with just a mouse. _________________ Pauline |

Re: A few questions about the book
Hi, Pauline: WOW!!! Of course you found using a conventional mouse awkward!!! Basically, they are mostly useless for the purposes of the many and varied accomplishments in Photoshop. In fact, I'll bet you found using one to be like drawing, selecting and manipulating with a BRICK, say what? Please allow me to recommend the Logitech TrackMan Wheel instrument instead. Specifically, P/N: 8043680-1000 model. Please go to the following web site and enter : TrackMan Wheel at the logitech.com/index.cfm/GB/EN search engine. This mouse fits conveniently into the palm of the hand when the hand is placed thereover on a flat surface. One does not physically MOVE this mouse. Instead, one merely rotates the "marble" - usually found UNDERNEATH a moveable mouse - via the thumb, and makes the appropriate "clicks", to achieve any effects. One, additionally, gains a very easy control of the Photoshop facilities, in so doing, for the graphics manulipulative purposes. I don't wish to be long-winded here, so please investigate this for yourself at the suggested LogiTech web site, just above. Truely, I know you will be far-far more satisfied! The switch from a conventional mouse may take a tiny bit of getting used to, but you will adapt yourself to it very soon - as have most of us. Let us know how you like your new mouse, Pauline. Stay well ... and sane, Hank |
