I'm a newbie. Here.
I have a question....I just purchased the How to cheat in Photoshop book....and looks very interesting. But my question is, does all this technics apply only to Photoshop CS2? will Photoshop element 4.0 work with this book? I'm new in Adobe Photoshop, the only software I've used is Photoimpact 10 and 11. I have learned quite a bit with this software, but now I want to try Adobe Photoshop. I would be willing to buy the CS 2 version eventhough it would put a hurt in my pocket book, but for now I only have elements 4.0... please I need some help....

I think there are quite a few of the readers of this forum that actually use Photoshop Elements. I am not familiar with it as I have the chance to have a license of Photoshop at home. so I can not be specific on the possibilties of Elements. Try it! There's nothing like trial and error!

Hi Edmundo,

Welcome to the forum. A lot of the techniques will work using Elements without any workarounds. Of course, there are differences between the two packages (just as there are differences between the versions of each).

HTC is not just about the software however, it also has useful insights into the construction of images, too. And that works with anything!

If you have any questions, feel free to post them. Someone will surely know the answer.

Well started to work on a project from the book, but just couldn't find some of the tools mentioned.....elements doesn't have the pen tool. It's got a brush, that's it....anyway I just bought a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS2, I should be getting it within a week, hopefully I can get started with the right software on hand....Thanks guys....it's nice to be listen to...

Elements 4 has 95% of the full Photoshop, with some notable exceptions. You've already found there's no Pen tool in Elements; there are also no Layer Masks, or Curves adjustment. Other than that, though, most of the book will apply to you!

As Pierre said, there are several users here with Elements. It's a great program, and the perfect introduction to Photoshop.

Enjoy it, and the forum

Steve

Thanks Steve. I did send out for Photoshop CS2, so I'm just waiting for it to try your projects from your book. I know I will need some help. So I will get back here with tons of questions. Thanks again. By the way, everything that's in your book is what I've been trying to learn. Some of the projects I have done with Photoimpact. But I want to really perfect all these technics with a good software program.

Edmondo you don't need to wait for your copy of cs to arrive to start on Steve's book. When I bought his book I only had elements 3. I had to use a few work arounds but I still managed to do the work. Instead of the pen tool, use another selection tool. The mask brush was the one that I favoured.

Hello again, hey I just got myself that Photoshop CS2. And it's everything I expected.....Tried out a few tutorials from Steve's book and although it explains how and what to do, I still have problems finding some of the tools that it mentions....I guess I have to go and start from basic 1... I will keep trying, I won't give up.... Thanks, I'll check back later on...

I'm new here as well. I just got the book and it helps a lot. The program is so in depth that its almost impossible to use without instruction. I'm sure I'll be needing some assistance when I come to obstacles in the road. Thanks for the site, Steve. I didn't expect this assistance being available. This is great. Hope to get to know some (or all) of you soon. Thanks again.
Neil
Ohh by the way, how do you add your picture to the personal area? I keep getting an error message.
