Photoshop CS3 wish list.
I know Steve has input in the development of Photoshop so maybe if he thinks this is a good idea he might mention it to the people in the right places

There are many times when you need to be zoomed in very close to do detailed work, but it can be a pain when you are working close to the image edge.

Why can't photoshop have a border around the image like it does when you are zoomed out.

Without one you have to be careful not to click on the window edge or on the scroll bar.

It is nice to be able to start a tool outside of an image and bring it in. You just can't do this when you are zoomed in I know you can keep the mouse pressed and move outside of the image area and then come back in, but you can't start outside

If you have CS or above, press F to switch to full screen mode. Zoom in as far as you want. If you use the hand tool, you can move the canvas around, even off screen, giving you the border you want.

Re: Photoshop CS3 wish list.
Another question about zooming. A friend of mine does commercial work with a Mac and can zoom in on any open images at once AND the window expands as well. He uses the equivalent of Control +. I have discovered that I can expand the window frame & image using Control& Alt + but it only works for one open image even with zoom all windows ticked.

Any ideas how it can be done for more than one image with a PC?

Many thanks

Sophie

Are you sure he's using Cmd & +. If you use Ctrl+Space for the zoom shortcut it works.

Hi Sophie

The Zoom tool itself will zoom all open windows simultaneously if you tick the 'zoom all windows' box in the options bar, but I cannot find a keyboard shortcut to do this. However, as soon as you tick the 'zoom all windows' box, the 'resize windows to fit' option greys out. Seemingly you can't use both options together!

David and Wayne
Thanks for your prompt response. I thought it was command+ on his Mac. All I know is, he selected and opened 6 files from a memory stick and expanded and contracted them with ease, and not just one at a time *and* the windows resized.

I have tried Control+ and Shift Click and combinations with the spacebar as well. When I try to zoom in, it half works on one. When I zoom out it does work. My screen is only 17" though, so I don't know if this or my puny PC makes a difference.

Methinks he may have had a plugin?? Or special settings? He has a 24x20 flat screen.

I will mail him on Monday and ask again. And if I can get it to work I will let you both know.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Photoshop CS3 wish list.
Sophie,

In the meantime, try this. Go to Window>Arrange>Tile Horizontally/Vertically and then Window>Arrange>Match zoom

If your pictures are about the same number of pixels each (like in my example, they all have 700 pixels in their longest dimension) it works pretty good. In the example below, I have "tiled vertically". I am also on Windows and have a 17 inch crap monitor.

Hi Pierre,
Thanks for the instructions and helpful screen dump. It all worked ...to a degree. The images all zoomed together, as they do with Control Space Click but the windows did not resize at the same time! It seems I can't have it both ways.

I've learned a few tips from you all so thanks for your response.
