Newbie enters slightly daunted by the challenge ahead
Hello to all especially Steve

recently purchased the book and im slowly working my way through it, trying to retain as much of the info as possible along the way.
I have just purchased CS3 creative suite also to help with my photography (which is partly why i purchased steves book).
Although a photographer for quite a few years i have only recently fully converted to digital, as i was dragging my heals over the whole 35mm / digital saga.
However im now fully convinced this is the way forward and now find myself in deep water with the whole image trickery scene.
I open photoshop, pass out, close it and repeat the next day (just kidding ofcourse) but it seems sooooo very complicated.
I know i have a lot of work ahead of me, but maybe if i hang out with photoshop savvy poeple for long enough i might just pick a few tricks up along the way.
I have been admiring some of the other members work and realise just what you can do if you know what your doing, i only wish i was where you guys are now instead of at day one.

every days a school day i guess, and maybe one day i might be half as good as steve (id be happy with that).

JJ

ps if anyone replies and i dont reply back its because im off on holiday in the morning ;-)

Johnny,
About 10 months ago I had no idea how to use Photoshop. I was in awe of these people just as you are. And with the help of Steve Caplin's book, his forum and the wonderful people in here I have come a long way in a very short time. (of course I still have a long way to go) So just hang with it and before you know it I'm sure you will grasp the concept of all of the wonderful tools at your disposal. Welcome to the forum and just ask and the people here will be more than helpful in any way they can.
Neil

To add on to what Gordon said.

Create an image and experiment also Johnny this is a very helpful tip and many photoshop users have still not done this, but check the adobe help viewer. Go into Photoshop and choose Help > Photoshop Help

or just go to this page

http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Photoshop/10.0/index.html

Trust me you read all of that and write down notes and implement everything you need to know then you will be able to open an image and know exactly what to do and how to do it.

Good Luck and as painstakingly hard it will be it will still be loads of fun learning the program

I can only repeat what Neil wrote. In February this year, I knew how to rotate and crop a picture, and that was about all. I worked steadily through Steve's book, and I've learnt so much!
