I Have No Idea Where To Post This Question But
I am so confused about "Photoshop" because Adobe now has so many editions I do not know which product to purchase. All I want to do is take the pictures of people I have and put them together in a first class presentation for myself. An example would be three sets of grandkids and I want them all in one picture. Another example of fun stuff I would like to do is called farking on the sports boards where you recreate false images from an original subject. What product is necessary for Windows XP. I have no experience whatsoever in any of the above other than taking pictures with my SLR. Any advice where to post this type of question would also be appreciated. Do I need Element, the full blown Photoshop, whatever CS3 is? |

Hello John, The current version of Photoshop is CS3, which stands for Creative Suite 3. It is the current version available from Adobe. Photoshop Elements is a much scaled down version, with many of the features removed, but is considerably cheaper. Photoshop does have a fairly steep learning curve, so it kind of depends on how much work you are prepared to put into learning the tool, and with what type of results you are interested in. You also might consider getting someone to do the work for you. There are quite a few people that do this kind of thing for hire. |

Hi John, I'm here in Louisiana too. Where in Louisiana are you? As Dave stated CS3 is the current version of Photoshop and would do what you intend to do. It is a pretty sophisticated program that takes a fair amount of diligence and perseverance to learn. This site is administrated by Mr. Steve Caplin who is the author of the book "How to Cheat in Photoshop". If you intend to purchase the CS3 software I would highly recommend that you also purchase his book.(available at amazon.com). His book gives you step by step instruction on how to use the software. It is compatible with Windows XP (although I use a mac computer.) His book teaches the use of photoshop in both PC and Mac applications. The program is much too complex to try and learn on your own. I have been using photoshop for 1 year and his book and this site have been irreplaceable in value for learning Photoshop for me. The people here in the forum will be more than helpful with any information you may need to help you along as you learn. I hope this helps. Thanks to both of you for the response. LOL Neil. We are neighbors. I'm in Youngsville. I'm starting to think Element might be the best choice for me. Perhaps move up to Photoshop later. |

Sounds to me as if Elements is going to be the best choice for you in the short term. It covers about 90% of what's in the full Photoshop, and is the ideal tool for the beginner. Feel I just have to mention that How to Cheat in Photoshop Elements has just been published! |

Thanks Steve
I will definately get the book with the money I saved. I bought my copy of Element this morning. It was time to start Christmas shopping and I was first on my list. ![]() This site is great because the store employees are not that up to date on the various product abilities. |

Dunce, Do have a look at the How to Cheat in Photoshop Elements website as well. There is also a forum dedicated to the book, just like this one. _________________ Leap and the net will appear |
