Making Zombies
Hi All - I am just getting into the "How to Cheat in Photoshop" book and I thought I would try out the Zombie Effect on my co-workers. They are all happy to take part and are keen to see the output. My problem is on stage 2 when it says to use the liquify filter to carry out basic distortion. I get a set of tools (I am using CS3) such as bloat, pucker, twirl and I am not sure which one to use - I have tried them all I cannot get the same effect as shown in the book. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. |

Re: Making Zombies
Hello Ambler, to get the effect as shown in the book I used the Forward Warp Tool (W) with the brush size set to 60 the density set to 50 and the brush pressure set to around 30. For the second part to get the hair effect leave the liquify filter and back in Photoshop use the Smudge tool (R). I'm currently using CS2 but sure the settings apply to CS3 also. Hope this helped, =) _________________ My fake plants died because I did not pretend to water them. |

Re: Making Zombies
LOL - good quick effort! I have been playing around for longer than I would like to admit to and I am having problems with even the basics - either CS3 is too complex for me or I am doing something fundamentally wrong! Take for examples the eyes - I want to add a green hue to the eyes so I select the colour replacement tool, double click the foreground colour, select the colour I want and then try to paint on the white of the eye - nothing happens! Have I selected the wrong tool, wrong method or is there some sort of protection on the layer that I don't know about. It's getting really frustrating as I really want to move on and create my Zombie. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Making Zombies
Better to stick to the regular Brush tool, and set its mode to Color - or even Hard Light for a stronger effect. The Color Replacement tool limits itself to hues similar to the one you first click on, so probably won't do the job you want in this case. As for the Liquify filter, I'd stick with the Warp tool. Take it slowly, and experiment with larger and smaller brush sizes to see how they push pixels around. Show us your results! And welcome to the forum Steve |

Re: Making Zombies
Well I have finally 'zombified' myself. I had a picture that I took in Belfast of a window of a house that was being pulled down and I wanted to put the Zombie in the room. I think I have achieved it but think the final result could have been a bit better and more realistic. I converted the extracted zombie to an object and then pasted him into the window area - with a bit of free transformation I got him to fit. I added some glass in the bottom of the window and reduced the opacity. I am sure there is a more realstic way of doing this part of the montage though. Anyway - it's my first attempt and any feedback would be appreciated. Regards = Tony R ![]() |
