A New Computer?
Since I got Photoshop a few weeks ago, I found myself liking it more and more. Right now I have a laptop. I would like to get a desktop as my main computer.
Any recommendations for an off-the-shelf computer? I do the usual internet surfing, email, etc. I don't play any games right now but I might later on. My main purpose for this desktop computer would be Photoshop.
I do know how to build computers but I don't want the headache of doing that.
I'm looking at spending $1000 or less.

Always with computers, spend as much as you can afford. Get as much ram as possible, and if you are going for Vista, double that.
A fast processor, and a large hard drive. Once you star using Photoshop, you will also want to start taking your photos in RAW, and your space requirements will just grow.
A GOOD screen, at least 20inch.
Sorry did I just blow your budget? Guess that depends on where you live.

The laptop I use now for Photoshop has 2GB of memory, a 160 GB hard drive, and a dual-core Intel processor(1.73GHZ I think). I can't complain about the speed of it....seems very fast and responsive.

It's been a little while since I've looked around at desktop computers but if I remember correctly, I can get a real nice system for about $1000, and that would include a 22 inch LCD.
That was maybe back in January....prices have probably dropped a little.

Ideally I would like to get a 24 inch monitor. The last computer I built had one of those and it was jaw-dropping.

2GB of Ram is fine for Photoshop, but if you get Vista you will need 4GB.

Of course, for a couple of hundred more you could get a shiny new iMac...

For the price of an iMac, I can get a new computer and a digital camera.
