CS4
If I were to install CS4, can I still leave CS2 installed or do I have to uninstall CS2 first? Steve |

Re: CS4
No, you can keep CS2 running as well. But why would you want both? There's nothing you can do in CS2 that you can't do in CS4. And since some of the keyboard shortcuts have shuffled around, you'd do better to learn the CS4 ones rather than having to remember both. |

Re: CS4
It's a great technique, Kingfish. And while it isn't addressed directly in the book, there are some suggestions for how to get this effect: a mixture of Hard Light layers, the Diffuse Anisotropic filter, and good old Unsharp Mask. Plus, of course, it helps if you have a great photo to start with! How to Cheat in Photoshop CS4 should be published in January. |

Re: CS4
Actually, you've really got me intrigued with this image now. I've officially finished the book, but I'm going to see if I can rework some pages to get this technique in there. It's a really good one! |

Re: CS4
Right - got it. Rather pleased with this technique! It's slightly more Norman Rockwell than the image you showed, but the variables are easy to tweak to get it closer to your original. Before and after: ![]() Best of all, I've now turned this into an Action and I'm applying it to all sorts of photographs! |

Re: CS4
Steve, I wasn't implying that I would run both CS2 and CS4, but since I am still editing pictures for my book, I wanted to make sure I could keep going in case something didn't go right with the CS4 install. I'm not that great when it comes to computers so I tend to become hesitant with upgrades. Thank you |

Re: CS4
Thank's Ellen. That is an effect I have been after for a while. It is very interesting, once you have created an action, the different effects you get just by varying the starting image size. |

Re: CS4
I like that effect a lot Paul; it's a shame there are no filters in Photoshop that directly give that effect. Anyway time to do some experimenting. ![]() |

If you decide to uninstall CS2, don't forget to first backup all your presets, actions, swatches, etc. Also, print out screengrabs of any custom settings, preferences, etc. There's a chance you could lose those, or the files could become corrupted during uninstall (even though you checked the box not to delete user preferences in the uninstall screen). Can't wait for CS4 book, Steve! ![]() |

Re: CS4
Steve, I have a confession to make. I originally bought photoshop 7, then bought the upgrades to CS2 and then 3. (I rather stupidely thought buying the upgrades were just patches) so had all of them on one computer! Apart from taking up space there was no problem with them all being there, |
