Steve, thank you for the great book!
This is my first Photoshop book and it's fantastic! At the bookstore they other day, they had both the CS3 and CS4 versions, I was really surprised at how much thicker the CS4 version is! (I bought the CS4 version) I really like the layout of the book, it's very accessible. I left a 5 star review of it over here at amazon.com. I wish you all the success you deserve! - Jack |

Glad you're enjoying it, Jack - and many thanks for the kind words. To really improve your Photoshop skills, you should try taking part in the weekly Friday Challenge on this forum. Looking forward to your entries! Steve |

I LOVE your book. I am pretty new at this but like to play in Photoshop. I recently retired so have some time on my hands. I do have a web site for racing pigeons (I no longer have them) but don't think I will share it for the moment. I think I will just read for a while and leave the posting of pictures for the talented. Thank you again for hours and hours of fun. |

No, Betty! That's absolutely not what the forum is for! Everyone has a right to show off their work. It's the only way you'll improve your skills. Seriously - we can help you to make so much more of Photoshop. Show us what you can do! Steve |

Re: Steve, thank you for the great book!
I'm quite new to the forum too, recently bought 'How to cheat in photoshop elemets 7' and 'Art & Design in photoshop'. I've been having a go at interperating a few examples myself. I love photoshop. years ago I did my degree in design communications but back then photoshop was seen as a tool to just produce our finished designs so not much chance to play around then. It was photoshop 5.5 too which now seems so dated ![]() When I pluck up the courage I hope to upload some of my samples. I'm learning new photoshop techniques myself now by playing around, following tutorials in books, magazines & online as well as doing a course once a week. ![]() |

Re: Steve, thank you for the great book!
I have to agree with previous posts and say that the book is absolutely marvellous. I prefer not to cheat if possible, but there are times when "doing it right" just isn't an option. I don't do much montage work, and I tend to work on composite images very rarely. I work as a wedding photographer and my interest in Photoshop is mainly for image enhancement, but there is one cheat in the book which has saved me hours and hours of work, this being the "hair cheat" - you know the one, where you use the picture of Nicole Kidman and use the smudge tool. I have heard this being described as "lazy" but in the real world, I often have to cut a bride out from a very gloomy register office or church background and the wall is almost always the same colour as the hair, making channel masking impossible. I have in the past painstakingly cloned from one image to a new, blank one using progressively finer and finer brushes. Never again!! For this one cheat I would have happily paid five times the price of the entire book. Thanks. Steve Caplin can have a beer at my house any time he likes. _________________ rob_stroud@yahoo.co.uk |

Re: Steve, thank you for the great book!
You would be most welcome - my fridge is usually well stocked! Seriously, thanks for the book. I have learned more from this one book than from any other single source. The first thing I learned was just how little I knew. I skipped the first chapter as I had been using Photoshop 7 for years, and had learned a few tricks in CS3 from other tutorials, but then I had to read the first chapter just to gen up on even the most basic things. The most marvellous thing about CS3 is that nobody knows everything, and I have learned tips from people who have only used it for a few weeks simply because they discovered something by accident. None of us are so good that we can't learn something else and CS3 is a prime example of this. This forum, by the way, is a superb addition to the book. In the main, the spirit of the site is conducive to learning and encouragement and I am so glad I signed up to it, so a very big thanks for the input already from the helpful people on here. _________________ rob_stroud@yahoo.co.uk |
