Windows 7 & CS3 Extended
Hi all this is not really a how to question but a compatibility one. I’m considering upgrading from Vista to windows 7 and have been told that CS3 Extended will not work with Windows 7. Does anyone have any experience of this and is there a fix? Thanks Jessie |

Out of my field of expertise... anyone else care to weigh in on this one? No problem with Macs, of course... |

Well CS4 Extended works fine, don't see how Extended CS3 won't. You'll need to install a new copy though, trying to use it directly from the folder that's typically named "Old" (I think) won't work as the files and the date inside the files aren't generated for your new operating system. All in all, the statment that it won't work with Windows 7 is false but you need a new installation. But mind you I'm just going from CS4 Experience. |

Well I took the plunge and upgraded to Windows 7 and so far I haven’t had any problems with CS3 Extended. ![]() ![]() |

If you grab the photoshop window and drag it to the top or the sides, does it fill the screen (or half screen) like other windows? I am quite disappointed that CS4 doesn't ![]() |

There is no resizing handle on the top edge, but there is on the corners. Move the cursor over the upper left or right corner. The cursor will change to a diagonal double arrow shape. It's not constrained. You can click and drag in any direction including straight up to resize the window. The sides and bottom have normal resizing handles. |

Re: Windows 7 & CS3 Extended
Thanks Bob, but that's not what I was referring to. In Windows 7 there is a new function that lets you make a window either full screen by dragging the title bar to the top of the screen or making it fill the left or right half of the screen by dragging to the left and the right edge. Something in CS4 seems to inhibit this behaviour for the Adobe products. |

Re: Windows 7 & CS3 Extended
Sorry, Paul. I misunderstood. I'm using Windows 7 and do know about that new behavior. I seldom use it though. With my current workflow, I seldom need it. Photoshop isn't the only application that doesn't use that capability. And, it isn't a bug. Whether an application does make use of that capability depends on how it created the application main window, what attributes it specified for it, and whether the application has an event listener to respond to the specific resizing messages Windows directs to the application when you move the window to the sides or top. Moving to the top is functionally equivalent to double clicking on the Window header. And, that does work. There is no equivalent to moving to the side and resizing to half screen. I would guess there is a reason they didn't enable that function. I don't know what it is though. |

Re: Windows 7 & CS3 Extended
Hi Paul, yes it does but I have to drag it to a point where only about an inch of the window is showing before it jumps to half screen. |
