Free Tablet - for the right number
Out with the old and in with the new. I'm retiring my current Wacom Intuos3 4x5 tablet for an upgrade and thought someone on this forum could benefit.

The challenge:
Pick a number between 1 and 2000.

The rules:
I really would like this to go to someone who doesn't currently own a tablet and would very much benefit with this one. So if you currently have a tablet (of any brand and any size), please let this pass for someone who is learning Photoshop with only their mouse.

If two people pick the same winning number, the person who posted first wins.

If the difference between the golden number and the guess of two people is the same, the person who posted first wins the prize. (Such as the winning number being 5 and one person guesses #3 and another guesses #7)

One guess per person please.

To give everyone a chance, I'll leave this open until Wednesday, December 23.

I have the tablet, pen and mouse. I should be able to find the original box, installation disks and extra pin nibs. The tablet has been dropped several times and has a few small scratches on the pad. It's not going to be in pristine condition, but should have plenty of life left. It does work. I'll cover shipping cost for the winner.

Chris,
You're a gentleman.
I shan't be entering as I already have a tablet.
Happy Christmas.

Re: Free Tablet - for the right number
Almost forgot. If the winner decides to upgrade the tablet for a new one, it would be pretty spiffy if they would donate this tablet back to the forum in a similar way. It could become the "community tablet"...

Nice gesture Chris

I do not have a tablet and, to be honest, feel rather scared that I won't get used to one however, everyone on here seems to sing their praises, so I'm up for being converted.

Anna, that is so spooky, I was going to choose that number.

OK so here's a good english number 1066 (and all that)

Have a great Xmas

Nick

Chris, that is such a great idea. What's more, I am astounded at the work produced by Anna and the others without a tablet.

This is a really ingenious method of selecting a recipient, Chris - and an extremely generous offer.

Ingenuity and generosity of spirit: seems to me that's what this forum is all about.

Re: Free Tablet - for the right number
Hi there and thank you all for the replies. Without trying to sound tout in any way, I honestly wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for this forum and Steve's book. Come to think of it, I would likely still be waiting tables at a restaurant. I hope in some small way this can return the gifts I've received. But enough of that...

Well, and the winner is... .... .. double checking my math...

LonnieK!

The number, without any historical reference or intended meaning is 1584.

Congratulations Lonnie, send me a PM and I'll get it to the post right away. I hope this tablet provides you with as many hours of enjoyment and learning experiences as it has given me.

After an exhaustive search, I was unable to procure the original box. (I'm usually a pack-rat about boxes) Surprisingly though, I did find the holster for the pen! Completely forgot the tablet came with one. haha

Thanks again,
-Chris

Hi Redsnapper and thank you for the reply. I don't understand this part of your post, though. ?

Before I posted the contest, I picked a number out of the air and emailed to Steve. It wasn't until later I looked up the historical references on Wikipedia. Apologies if it unintentionally offended anyone.

I don't think you caused any offence!

Incidentally, a good friend of mine is Dean of Emmanuel College Cambridge. Now there's a coincidence.

Re: Free Tablet - for the right number
no, of course not, why should i be offended? i wrongly thought that most conversation on this fun-forum is read by most and i enquired about the price and model i would have to deal with when buying a digitizer tablet. steve was so kind to advise me that the bamboo fun does the trick and i got it. i haven´t had time to get mad at the device due to all that inevitable christmas preparation terrorism. baking cakes and cookies here , chopping geese and chicken to bloody bits there. you know the routine...
i only checked on the number 1584 and found it was not quite as unimportant in history as of course lonnieks´given number 1776 ( this is what appears on my screen) certainly is and always will be.
anyhow your idea and generosity remains admirable and i hope you have a couple of splendid days off with your family, friends or whoever you celebrate christmas with.
