Whoops!
Often when I send a file to the forum, I get this warning: Whoops! Too large (>102 Kb). If the file in Photoshop's Web save option is not bigger than 98 Kb it works. |

Re: Whoops!
Yes Sjef same. I think there is a problem in that everyone uses slightly different screen size, resolutions. My screen is set to 1440x900px. But to get a file down to 100kb I usually have to reduce quality to about 30%!, or alter the image size to get a balance. This is not the best method if everyone uses different screen sizes. I think we should have a standard file size and resolution so that we all see the same thing. ![]() _________________ Quote of the day.. "Photoshop isn't really meant to be used for drawing".. |

Re: Whoops!
Hi Artwel, I think the screen size doesn't matter. Mine is 1920x1200 pixels, and I usually reduce the friday challence picture to 900 x N (width x height). If the picture gets too many artifacts, I reduce it to 800 x N and mostly it's reasonable then, but usually still at a rather low quality to reach 98 Kb. I could reduce it to 700 or smaller, but the smaller it gets, the more details get lost (but quality gets higher). It's a friday compromise... To my knowledge all this has nothing to do with resolution (72 or 300 DPI), it's all about pixels. You're right about the size of a picture on which screen. One could have a small screen, say 13 inch and yet with a resolution of 1920x1080 (HD). But the pixels of the friday challence remains the same, doesn't they. |

Re: Whoops!
I have found the same, i.e. that 98kb will load, whereas 100kb may tend to fail. I resize images to 800 pixels on the longest edge @ 72 ppi. The pixels and the number of them per inch are the resolution and will dictate how big the image appears. If you had an image @ 72ppi with 720 pixels on the longest edge, then the image would be 10 inches by X inches. At 300ppi the same image would be around two and a half inches. Nick |

Re: Whoops!
I've increased the maximum size so 100k images should get in more easily now. The forum actually accepts images slightly smaller than it says it will, for reasons that I don't understand. The limit is there partly to make pages load faster, and partly to save my bandwidth. |

Re: Whoops!
When I saved my French Doors picture this week for posting I noticed the absence of the file size in the Jgeg Options box. Once upon a time I would set the save quality according to the file size for the forum but today it was missing. I've looked behind the sofa but it's not there. Maybe it dropped in the last PS update? Any thoughts? Today I had to save the file in different qualities and used the one nearest 100KB. Ted |

Re: Whoops!
I use PS Save for web, and usually reduce the size of my image to between 700 - 900 wide and set the quality to 50%. I'm always amazed at how good it still looks with that amount of reduction in the quality. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

In the topic 'A Heavenly View' are two photographs uploaded bigger than 102 Kb. They are over 180 Kb! See http://www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com/cgi-bin/simpleforum_pro.cgi?fid=12&topic_id=1347832915 |
