PS icons to images in "Pictures"
Photoshop Bridge is quite good for all of its' purposes, however many times I have preferred to open a .psd file directly from a folder wherein I retained some of my PS work - say from "Pictures" just for example .. and just by mere preference. With earlier PS versions (like vs. 7) all .psd files were saved as such in a specific computer file, but one could see the thumbnail image of the .psd in lieu of a PS icon. I posed this PS icon issue on this forum at the time when Adobe changed the procedures of saving .psd images as only PS icons - because of Bridge. One of this forum's users rather quickly replied and directed me to a particular location on "The Photoshop Creative & Advanced Photoshop Forum" wherein one of its' users had overcome the PS icon issue via a PS icon .dll "fix" which was downloadable and installable in the Shell folder within that particular version of Photoshop. The PS icon "fix" worked immediately and beautifully, and with each new version of Photoshop I installed, the "fix" automatically converted the PS icons to thumbnail images.

Recently, due to a complete computer crash, I purchased a new high end Dell computer which is running Windows 7. After installing PS/CS6 on my new computer, I took the usual path to the Adobe folder (within Programs) wherein I expected to find a folder named "Shell", however there was no such folder in that CS6 file. Then, I seemed to recall that, originally, I had installed the downloaded third party "fix"only into one of the earlier version's "Shell" folder, and that after installing each subsequent new PS version, all of the PS icons were automatically converted to thumbnail images. Since there was no such folder as "Shell" within the Adobe CS6 program files (through "Common Files"), I created a new file there and named it "Shell", then moved the PS icon .dll "fix to it and ran it. It embedded itself into the registry and initially quickly ran to effect the fix. However, it didn't fix the PS icon issue and all of the .psd files still display as only PS icons. When I contacted Adobe tech support, they suggested that the possible reason this might have occurred is because I was using Windows 7 (Professional) instead of the Windows XP OS which I had been using for ten years. In the end, they could be of no assistance to me because the fix .dll was from a third party source and not from Adobe.

So ... I am wondering if there might be any PS user, on the "Cheat" forum, who has been successful in getting an updated. third party, fix to the PS icon issue since it was originally from a member of this forum who helped me so much with this a few years back.

Any assistance anyone might give me on this issue would be more than greatly appreciated, and I anticipate any response.

This is a Windows issue, I think, so out of my field. Anyone know what's going on here?

Awesome! Thanks a million, Frank. It works great for me too. Sure am glad to have that PS icon conversion. Now the best of both worlds: Work from Bridge or the Pictures folders.

My best to you, and thanks, Steve, for assistance in inquiry with this issue.
