Is PS 21.5 getting better and easier ....... or dumbing down?
I am a little puzzled by some of photoshop's new 'improvements'.

I have been playing with the new quick actions, sky replacement, blurring backgrounds, converting an image to black and white, etc. They are, for the most part, basic and simple actions anyway and often seem to be a case of "Let Adobe do rather averagely (or even badly) what you could learn do to do properly for yourself with very little effort."

Now I can see that, with smartphones getting to be better and better digital cameras, there is a swiftly growing group of inexperienced photographic users for whom this is appealing. However, I am surprised to find that Adobe, which has always been the tool of professionals and serious amateurs, apparently trying to appeal to this less knowledgeable market. There are plenty of far easier and far less costly apps on the market likely to be far more appealing to those for whom quick fix pre-set driven automated options are attractive.

Now I don't want to be elitist about automated actions. Some like the relatively recent "Select Subject" are astonishingly good in a large number of instances and undoubtedly help us speed our workflow.

But I find it hard to believe that these are likely to make an app as complex and sophisticated as Photoshop more accessible or appealing to this market while it, ironically, makes it more and more demanding of hardware and resources and the app gets more and more bloated with unneeded features which I would have thought were rather superfluous for the serious user.

Am I being very naive here or is Photoshop losing it's 'focus' in an attempt to be all things to all users?

By the way, on the positive side, I forgot to mention that the new Warp Tool is a huge step forward from it's predecessors! Looking forward to finding a use for that!
