Using Different Wacom Pen Tips
Curious to know if any of you Wacom users have tried playing with their different pen tips?

My last Wacom slate died on me so I had to get new one. Since they come with pen included I now have a spare pen from the old slate that is compatible with the new one.

I have always worked with just the standard black hard tip. Today I decided to try the different alternatives. I found that there are definite differences although they are very subtle.

I found two which are quite interesting. One is made of grey compacted hard felt. It feels pretty much like the standard tip except it definitely has a smoother 'slide' on the slate surface and a very slightly kinder less 'mechanical' feel. I really like it and am going to try it for a while as my standard tip.

The other interesting tip is a grey plastic with a little spring in the middle. It is very soft and light until pressure reaches the point where the spring compacts and becomes solid, at which point it becomes very much like the standard tip. I find for soft brushing it's really great.

So after twenty five years of using Wacoms I have finally tried their different tips! I am not sure if the differences are significant enough to bother with swapping tips in the one pen but with a second at my disposal it's definitely worth a try.

I do think it's definitely worth trying the compacted felt tip as a permanent alternative the the standard black. The only catch is it will wear out quicker if you tend to have a hard touch.

So has anyone else played with this? I am very curious to know what you think if you have.

Re: Using Different Wacom Pen Tips
Ive tried the various tips and found the differences to be quite subtle.
New tablet on the street being raved about is Xencelabs Pen Tablet - worth a look.
A cheaper tablet with good reviews is the XP-Pen Star G640 - may be cheaper but I understand it's very good.
I bounce back and forth between the mouse and Tablet depending what I'm doing so not much help with tips.

Re: Using Different Wacom Pen Tips
The Xencelabs Pen Tablets looks really good! They do a left handed quick keys pad as well, which is the way I work with my present setup. XO Pen looks good for a basic tablet too.

Sadly neither makes anything larger than medium. I have always used large surface tablets (330 x 210 active surface presently) from years back and find the smaller sizes very difficult and confining.

My Intuos 4 is quite old and am frightened the day will come when it is no longer supported with drivers. I have already had to ditch three costly Wacoms in the past because of this. The Intuos 5 is not nearly as nice as it's predecessor and is very costly so when the time comes I think I will almost certainly go for one of the large size Huion tablets.
