Great book
Just to say that I thought ythe first book was really good and will be interested to see what the sequel is like. To me, the book is a 'fresh breath of air' away from all the 'handbook clones' out there which tend to take stuff tool by tool without really ever showing how to put them to good use in an actual artwork. It also manages to show how to achieve some great looking results, which without the book I'd never have even considered attempting. I like the way the book includes information on making things look realistic as well - the placement of people, the adjustment of their eyes, perspective and so forth a more realistic looking effect. The presentation of the book itself I thought was immaculate - easy to read, clear images and so on. In summary, a great book and one I'm glad to own. |

Re: Great book
Thanks, Dave. The next book isn't so much a sequel as a new edition - it will cover some of the new features of Photoshop CS, as well as a load of new ideas, workthroughs and techniques. But it won't be in bookstores for a few months yet... Steve |

Steve, whats your opinion on Photoshop CS? Having had a quick look on the adobe site, the only thing that grabs me is the Colour Matching & the ability to export into flash. Is the Colour matching any good? |

Re: Great book
Well, there's some really good stuff - the File Browser is amazingly fast and lets you do loads of cool things like automating tasks, and the Shadow/Highlight adjustment is absolutely fantastic. For me, those are the two big main features. The colour matching is one feature I've had real problems with: it seems very picky about which images it's happy to work with, and tended to produce disastrous results with most of the stuff I tried. If you're in the UK (and I assume you are from your spelling) then check out my review in MacUser, due out any day now. |

Re: Great book
The existing book should be viewed as a 'must-have'. I work in a photo-restoration shop in Newry, Co. Down, Ireland and Steve's book is always at hand as a quick source of inspiration. The book is in plain simple every day English - no big jaw-breakers of words and technincal terms that other books are stuffed with. Steve, please e-mail me when the next one is due with the ISBN, contact details etc - it would be great if it were out for the Christmas market. Here's wishing you every success with this new book. |
