Digital Camera
Hi Steve, I am now looking for a new digital camera, to take photos of more complicated and smaller items that I simply can't take with my current camera - which would greatly improve my earning potential as a Web/Graphic designer! I am now considering the Nikon Coolpix 5700 as it has a number of additional extras that can be purchased. I had initially looked at the 5000, but don’t see as many extras for it. After reading your review of the coolpix 5000 in the book, do you recommend this range of camera for this type of work, or do you feel that I could get a better camera from a different manufacturer for the same price. The coolpix 5700 is not cheap! The cheapest I have found it to be is around £640 ( UK ), although eBay offers ( in my opinion ) a risky alternative ( outside UK ). I am looking to pay for the best camera I can get around this price for illustration and web design. Advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul. |

Re: Digital Camera
I still use my Coolpix 5000, although these days I'd buy the 5400. I had the 5700 for a while on test, and didn't like it as much. Sure, they are pricey. But what you're getting is a top quality lens - and that seems to be something of an afterthought among many digital camera manufacturers. Nikon have been making traditional lenses for generations, and they really know what they're doing. For web design, the image size obviously isn't important since you'll be working at 72 dpi. But for general illustration work, you really can't fault the Nikon, and I've found nothing comparable that beats it in terms of quality and useability. Steve |

Re: Digital Camera
Hi Steve, After shopping around, and having read a few reviews on the various 5m pix cameras, I'm now the proud owner of a Nikon Coolpix 5400. This is a pricey little tool, but the price reflects its quality. Thanks for the advice on this camera, Paul. |

Excellent. It is a bit on the pricey side, but I'm sure you won't regret the decision - it's a seriously good camera for the price. |

Re: Digital Camera
Yes, I'm fairly pleased with it so far, Steve. I just need to get to grips with the extra functions/features that I'm not quite used too! |

Congratz on the new camera Paul! I actually just purchased a Canon Powershot S45 camera (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_s45.asp) which was a good choice for me right now since I'm just starting out and don't want to spend a lot on something I'm not sure about yet. I read lots of reviews & did comparisons so I should be happy (I hope). I was on the review site and the sample image gallery on the Nikon Coolpix 5400 had some gorgeous photo samples compared to my 4MP cameras gallery! lol (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_cp5400.asp) I'm sure you'll have a great photo collection with that! I'm jealous! LOL ![]() |
