Hello Everyone
This forum is so informative and instructive. I spent last night looking through the Friday Challenge entries until the early hours, there sure is some great artists out there. All the entries are well received regarless of standard and good advice given by Steve and other members. I decided to take a look at image manipulation after getting some work done on http://www.elance.com Do any of you work on there? I only had 2 header graphics done ($350) and they were nothing special really. How do i upload the images? Or do i have to link to them using html? I thought to my self that i could do it myself. I have toyed with Corel Draw in the past, but that was just for simple stuff, such as making table plans for Formal Regimental Dinners etc and i had also looked at the GIMP and Photoshop before, but it looked well over my head. I decided to learn how to use Photoshop and am currently working through "Photoshop 7.0 Classroom in a Book", I have worked through 6 Chapters of the 18 so far and appart from my useless mouse control using the pen, everything has beeen ok. I also did a search on Amazon.co.uk where i found and purchased Steve's book. I found this forum after following the link in it. Great book Steve, most books show you the techniques but never relate them to real world examples. I haven't worked through your tutorials yet as i'm still working through the basics in Classroom in a book, but i have read through the book several times and although i am an absolute beginner at this i have had no trouble at all following your tutorials. Well i might try entering some of the Friday night challenges, but don't expect a masterpiece as i'm no artist and have only used the program for a few days. ![]() |

Re: Hello Everyone
Welcome to the forums! You should definitely have a go at the challenges, as well as posting some of your work to the Readers' Gallery. Steve is always (time permitting) willing to offer constructive criticism, as are the other members on the site. It's a great place to learn and improve - and we've all been there! I've had a look at elance and other such sites but there never seems to be anything that I'm suited to doing; it seems that photomontage is one of those 'limbo' skills that is neither photography nor illustration, which is what the clients there seem to want. Anyway, have a look through the rest of the forums, there's some good information to be had and we all look forward to seeing some of your work! _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

Re: Hello Everyone
I also have the 'Classroom in a Book' (well, my dad does. I'm not rich y'know) and I found it very useful for the absolute basics I needed to learn before the more advanced stuff. I made the mistake of getting HtCiPS first and found most of the stuff was way above my skill level. Then I followed through the first 9 or so chapters from Classroom in a Book and found it much easier. It's brilliant for the absolute beginners who can't tell their clone brush from their magic eraser, but doesn't offer much in the way of advanced techniques and tips in the way that HtCiPS does. Also, Steve's writing style is much easier to follow as the terminology he uses isn't so technical. It's a great buy nonetheless, and was vital for me to begin with. |

Welcome Devilslayer its always good to see some new blood (better not mention that in David's presence, unless there is plenty of garlic about ![]() This is a great forum for getting some constructive critism on any images your creating, and the Friday Challenges are a fantastic opportunity to practice the skills you learn along the way. As David said, we have all been there, and some of us are still there! ![]() _________________ "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots.
