CS2 - where to buy
Hi gang

Well now it's here I'm very keen to get it. Got the demo version but where is the best deal to buy it ? Should I wait a bit and see or what ? What have you chaps and chapettes done ?

I'm not too clever at this sort of thing

I doubt there will be much in the way of bargains, especially as it's just been released. Adobe software tends to hover around the RRP pretty much everywhere. As you have a version of PS already, you can go down the upgrade path, which is considerably cheaper.

Don't be tempted by the eBay/spam offers when they start rolling in, as far as I'm aware, the copy protection on this release is pretty nasty!

Actually the copy protection/activation didn't pose much of a challenge. Unfortunately CS2 showed up on some underground sites a week before it even hit store shelves.

I guess if someone really wants something they're going to get it no matter what...

Yes, I purchased my copy

Yeah. A working CD key generator was released just 2 days after CS2 itself was released.

How do I know it worked...? I don't >_>

Re: CS2 - where to buy
In my opinion it is a losing battle. Every time they come out with a new protection, there is always going to be someone who is going to foil the protection. The only person it inconveniences is the legitimate consumer (people like us). We're the ones that have to deal with the hassle of having serial #s, activation codes, authorization codes and whatever other requirement is needed just to install our software. And because of piracy we have to go through more trouble if we lose our copy, misplace our codes or our computer dies and needs to be replaced.

I think a great help would be if software companies lowered their prices to something more affordable for more people. For example, if piracy didn't exist and people were forced to buy every bit of software, how many people could afford $600.00 for a program? $600.00 is alot for the average person. That's a house payment, a couple car payments, etc. Not many people could afford the outrageous price of software.

And if piracy didn't exist how many people would have the software? Very few people would have the software and when there aren't many people using a software program that means things like user forums, 3rd party plugins, etc are very few. You end up catering to a small group of people rather than the masses which means limited growth.

I'm definitely against piracy, but I think there has to be a little give by the software giants. Lowering price makes it more affordable which will cut down on piracy. And the more people that have the program insures that there will be plenty of support and future updates/upgrades down the road.

The whole piracy vs. software costs battle seems like it's just one giant circle. It never ends and no one gets ahead.

Anyway, didn't mean to get on a rant. But I felt it was fitting since we're talking about the bootlegging of Photoshop.

The designing of a piece of software like PS must be very expensive - they have a large team of top level designers on staff.

The trouble is; there will always be someone who wants something for nothing, so even if PS was £10, it would be £10 too much for Joe Bloggs to want to spend.

Photoshop is the cream of editing software and is aimed at the professional market, £600 being quite reasonable in terms of this type of program, especially when you consider things like AutoCad, which runs into thousands of pounds. As Eventer quite rightly says, it takes a lot of time and effort to produce and the price reflects the 'craftsmanship'.

Piracy causes high prices, which in turn causes piracy.

I don't believe that the high prices are caused 100% by piracy. It's not true.

Each one of us can argue our point until we are blue in the face. Like I said earlier, it's a never ending battle. And as long as both sides continue the way they are, nothing will change.

As much as I would love lower prices, (I canot afford it), I donot believe that it would help much.

The people that think that piracy is morally and ethically wrong will not not matter the price, (although they, like me, may not buy it either),
and the people that do not consider it morally and ethically wrong will no matter the price, just because they don't feel like paying, and 'why not?'

Re: CS2 - where to buy
It's very tempting when you desperately want the program because you really like and appreciate it, but you can see no chance of being able to afford it in the forseeable future.

Been there, didn't buy pirate, but kept the email for a long time.....

Its kind of ironic that the only people serial numbers, activation and copy protection inconvenience is legitimate users. The people using illegitimate copies quite easily reinstall software without ringing up a phone operative with training from the Gistapo, which makes you question the whole procedure...
