A lurker revealed!
Hi. Was pleased to received the book for Christmas having lurked on this site for some time. I am impressed with the level of work shown here and have to hold up my hand to say I'm not sure I'm anywhere near there yet but here is a good place to be to learn. I was also impressed to receive a PM of welcome from Lexus within 60 seconds of registering. Thanks. I also like the Bush-whacking here and I have such a picture which I hope I manage to send. One query, in the CD there is a picture 22491877 a woman in evening dress. I have tried many times to extract her from the white b/g without losing most of her hair. Is this one of the difficult tests set by Steve? I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy it here!! Ted |

Re: A lurker revealed!
The best way to improve your skills is to jump right in there, Ted. The Friday Challenge is specifically designed for people to hone their Photoshop skills and not a competition to see who's best - we are a friendly bunch here and alway ready to offer advice and help if you get stuck with a problem, Steve is superb at what he does and knows plenty of tips and tricks that aren't neccessarily in the book. So please join in as soon as you can, and welcome to the forum. Edit: I see you've posted one of your images and all I can say is that you have nothing to worry about you clearly have a good deal of photomontaging skill fantastic work ![]() _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: A lurker revealed!
Thank you both for your words of welcome and encouragement. When I can I will attempt the Friday Challenge but reading the first few chapters I think I have some work to do before I do. I think I have answered my own first query. RTFM. A properly tweaked background eraser should do it. But I'm sure Photoshop has many ways to achieve the same result. Ted |

All the images on the CD have paths defined. Open the image. Go to the paths tab in the layer palette. Hold Ctrl (win)/Cmd (Mac) and click the path's thumbnail. This turns the path into a selection from which you can create a new layer (Ctrl/Cmd+J). _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

Thank you David for that exceedingly useful snippet of information. As my 'ole granpappy used to say ...'Its not what you know its who you know and what they know that counts'! Ted |

I was taught something quite similiar but it was more: "It's not what you know or who you know, it's what you know about who you know!" _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

"It's not what you know or who you know, it's what you know about who you know!" Aaahh but that might have been for a purpose other than Photoshop! I have found another image that I am quite proud of. Replacing eight out of ten heads at a dinner table. Which part of the forum would I post that? |

The "Reader's Gallery" section is the place. Welcome to the forum, I am still new myself and find this place a great accompaniment to the book. It's refreshing that people here are not afraid to share their tricks and tips. |
