Re: Help!!!!
The best solution to website design is usually the simpliest, css to style your text and some good html is about as much as you need for a standard web page, however, for more complex stuff like image slideshows etc. then learning java, javascript, asp, php, or Flash becomes essential. There is no hard and fast rules on site design except to make it as user-friendly as possible and don't go overboard on the colour scheme or bog it down with too many images. I'm no expert to say the least, by I try to keep mine as simple as I can manage. Flash is a great alternative to html and css as you can set the content to fit the screen resolution of the viewer or if you perfer to keep your text and image size to a strict ratio you can also specify that, Flash also benefits from generally being smaller and quicker to load as long as you don't have a complex animated intro. have a look at my site www.maidenart.co.uk it isn't anything special but it does the job and it's mainly html & css with a bit of php for the b3ta thumnail gallery (yes I know a lot of the thumbnails aren't displaying this isn't a code fault but the fact that i have been to lazy/busy to make all the required icons) But the main rule I would say is that you yourself must be happy with the end design. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Help!!!!
I use Photoshop and port it to Dreamweaver. It can sometimes be tricky if you're planning on using inline frames, etc. but for overall ease of design, it's great. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Help!!!!
Hi and thanks for replying. I thought so maiden ....i like your site. Theres so much software out there. I have heard that people use Dreamweaver David but i dont have the spare cash to take a look. Unfortunately.....it sounds good though. Looks like photoshop ,html, css and a bit of flash would be the way to go. ![]() At the moment my wife has a website that was built for her by a website company but to make small changes their charging lots. So i thought if we could take control of our site in terms of copyright we could edit our site at will with no extra cost. ![]() |

Re:
hi lexus... text over pics is the really easy part. Photoshop will have you doing this in secs. Just open your picture and click on the text tool . This will be on the left hand side on the toolbar marked as a 'T'. You just click on the pic and type away.Is this what you mean? Not to sure what you mean by scrollable boxes though. If you use html in notepad you can script scrollable forms and such... |

Re: Help!!!!
We had a website created for work by a graphic artist. The way HE did it, was to do all the design in photoshop and then slice it up with the slice tool. I think ImageReady might have been used too to tweak some things. It looked great, but I don't think it would have won any awards for accessibility for the blind as most of the text appeared as graphics. Having said that, it was a site selling images, so I don't think it would have had many complaints. |

Re: Help!!!!
Text over images can be done in a couple of ways. Layers (DHTML/CSS) or set the image as a background on a table - the latter is the easiest. _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |
