New lens
This is the lens I'm thinking of getting for
a Canon Rebel XSi.
It says it's not compatible with larger image sensor than APS-C size.
Does anyone know how I can find this out.
I looked on line at the specs for the camera but could not find it.
I'm not sure what APS-C stands for.

Thanks
Steve

Perhaps we're in a time warp and we're all going back in time and getting younger! I had better just go and get my old hippy beads and kaftan out of the cupboard just in case. Really looking forward to seeing the 60s again.

I think it was finger trouble at my end, Kate. Just listening to The Mommas and the Pappas in preparation for my trip back in time.

Re: New lens
And to get back to the question. The Rebel has sensor size is APS-C as far as I can see from a quick search. The larger SLRs 20D etc have a larger sensor and cost more.

Thanks Vibeke
I hope you get this message
I just ordered the lens yesterday.
I hope I did the right thing. I'm sure it will work well.
Thanks for your help too Gordon.
I really need to take a camera class.

Thanks Vibeke.
The lens just came today. Can't wait to try it out!
In about a week or soI will be trying it out on a staircase I did recently. I am waiting for the painters to finish.

Hi Steve. I'm at the beginning of the same learning curve as you, having recently got the same camera. (Called the 450D over here though)

In addition to the excellent advice and support from this forum, these sites may be of help to you, they were to me.

Unfortunately that is incorrect.

All Canon DSLR cameras have the APS-C size sensor with the 1.6 crop factor. The only exceptions are the 1D (including MkII & MK III) which has a 1.3 crop (slightly larger sensor) and the 1Ds (including MKII & MK III) and the 5D (including the new MK II) which have full 35mm sized sensors.

300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, D30, D60,10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D are all APS-C size.
