So I ordered the book earlier
So I ordered the book earlier, whilst buying another one (not the same one obviously). Anyone want to fill me in what I should be looking forward to and how skilled I need to be to start off with and how good I'll be by the end of it? Even though I think I know I'm not going to find difficulty in starting the book at all ![]() |

The difficultly level is from Beginner to Intermediate allowing you to expand on your own skills even if you are already a profressional Photoshop user. From selections to composition there is something to learn for all levels here, but not just the basics but how to achieve what you want to achieve within a given deadline which is what most professional are after - shortcuts, hints and tips that will get your work flow increased to produce some excellent photomontages. I'd say whatever skill level you are at now Steve's books will have something for you to add to your skill set - even if it's just as an handy reference book. But even people who are fresh to Photoshop will quickly get up to speed. I know that sounds like a sales pitch but you don't have to take my word for it ask around in the Forums and they will all tell you they have learnt so much from Steve Caplin. But just incase you haven't gone to Steve's main website here is some samples from the book: http://www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com/samples.html |

I agree with Maiden. I started off knowing how to crop a photo and lighten/darken it a bit, but I worked through Steve's book and found it gave me a good solid grounding. What it did for me was teach me the basic skills and give me something to build on. |

For me, the book actually put Photoshop functions to real world use. I could finally see WHY you would do something. I'd been using Photoshop for years before buying the book, aApparently just scratching the surface,. If there is one think I learnt from the book, it is that there is so much more to Photoshop than you will ever know. If I have an hour spare with nothing to do, I'll fire up PS and learn something new about it. Only last week I noticed a new thing appear in the layers palette when I was working on an animated GIF for a website. |

My blushes aside, the book is just one component. Be sure to make full use of this forum, if you get stuck on any point - I'd far rather we got you sorted out quickly than had you scratching your head for no reason. |

I'm currently enjoying the book. My only critque would be some of the tutorials seem a little briefer than I'd like. More compositional narrative needed if you will. Guess I'll have to mix with the dvd ![]() |

Yeah, I'm having so much trouble with Dodge and Burn to do shading. Like with making the cake, or would probably have problems with the remote control. It's like, I just don't have an eye to see it in 3D perspective - Or like making the jar look like it has spilt liquid. Anyone want to point me in the right direction here? Lol |
