After Effects
For some time now I have been attempting to get to grips with After Effects, without any success whatever. However I note that Amazon do have a book on the subject, and I'm wondering if any Forum member may have a copy, if so I would be pleased to receive an opinion on it's usefulness. Re: After Effects
I am not familiar with this particular book. My main source of information and knowledge comes from online video tutorials. I seem to learn more effectively when I can see and hear what is being taught. I found Video Copilot to be one of the most comprehensive and user friendly sites in regards to After Effects. They offer a free AE Basic Training course on line and I used that as my foundation for the introduction to AE. Once you feel you have a reasonable understanding of how and why it works..you can then move on to doing small projects using various techniques..Video CoPilot also have project tutorials based on varying degrees of difficulty and skill. HOpe this helps James and Im very much looking forward to seeing what you achieve ![]() This is the link for the basic AE training http://www.videocopilot.net/basic/ _________________ Dorothy: Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore |

Re: After Effects
Hi James, I also use online tutorials in order to learn After Effects. I would endorse the video copilot series by Andrew Kramer that Anna suggests as well as: Creative Cow - they have a free introduction to after effects series (in 30+ parts) which is very good called AEBasics http://library.creativecow.net/tutorials/adobeaftereffectsbasics and there are hundreds of other videos on after effects, photoshop and other software at Creative Cow as well. Eran Stern - is very creative and explains simple and advanced techniques very well http://sternfx.com/ There are also numerous other online tutorials that I have found by searching for "after effects tutorial" in Google. I also have a really good book (which has an accompanying DVD full of useful stuff) called Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects by Chris & Trish Meyer http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creating-Motion-Graphics-After-Effects/dp/0240814150/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331558032&sr=1-1-fkmr1 The Meyer's also publish another AE book called The After Effects Apprentice which I don't have but I guess is an introductory training book. http://www.amazon.co.uk/After-Effects-Apprentice-Chris-Trish/dp/0240811364/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331558032&sr=1-2-fkmr1 Looking forward to what dazzling animations you can produce once you've got your teeth into After Effects (a very powerful program) - it's like Photoshop for Video turbocharged. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need more information. I'm still at my early stages of learning but would be pleased to share what I have understood so far. Nice to see you have moved back to Romford! Cheers Vern |

Re: After Effects
Hi James. Some good advice from Anna and Vern. I have Classroom in a book CS3, I found it a bit of a slog trying to get past chapter 2, it was a bit heavy going and not enjoyable! I agree that video tutorials are usually the most helpful, you can usually find exactly what you're after on the Internet. I also have How To Cheat in After effects CS5. This is okay but very vague on the details, Nowhere near as good as HTCIP! Another book I have, and probably the one I would recommend is The After Effects Apprentice , which Vern mentioned. It contains some interesting chapters and is more the kind of book you could 'jump' into! http://www.amazon.co.uk/After-Effects-Apprentice-Chris-Trish/dp/0240811364/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331558032&sr=1-2-fkmr1 _________________ “Art Is Never Finished, Only Abandoned.” |
