My Friday Challenge entry went in early again this week so, as it is still too cold for gardening I thought I would have a shot at extracting that rather difficult palm tree. The fashion photographer Martin Evening is the author of "Adobe Photoshop for Photographers", which some of you may have. In the chapter called "Montage Techniques" there is a tutorial on masking hair, which we all know is not for the faint hearted. I tried it on the palm tree and the result, I think, is not too bad. You can find the technique here In Quick Mask mode with a very soft brush you can select the pale blue matting and then match it's colour to the rest using (my choice) Match Colour.

Good work Mariner. I'm sure you already know but for anyone else - if you want to save an image without the background (so an invisible/transparent background) save the file as a PNG. Glad to help, PNG files have come in very handy. If you search for PNG images on google you will get some pre cut images.
