I have a job interview!
As some of you know I have been unemployed and have been transitioning careers to one that would use my new Photoshop skills. Monday I sent in a resume to Sigona's Farmers Market in Palo Alto, California, for the Sign Maker/Marketing Assistant position they were advertising. I just got a call asking me to come in for an interview. I want to thank everyone here on this forum who has helped me get this far and especially, Steve for writing HotChiPs and creating this forum. My interview is on Tuesday at 12:00 noon which is 8:00pm in the UK. -Sara _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: I have a job interview!
Thank you Steve and Kate. Here is another bit of good luck: Last winter I took a civil service test with the county and the County (tax) Assessor's called and offered me a position for the next 11 weeks starting on 2 Sept. to go to all of the businesses in the county and check to see if 1. they have a business license, and 2. all the information on it is correct. Even if I don't get the sign-making job. I still have work for 11 weeks. And, because I know that I have another job in the wings I won't have that desperate feeling during the interview. I know some of you are going to say to yourselves, "How is it that she is going to be able to go up to strangers and talk with them when she has so much difficulty talking to people face-to-face?" The answer is that I will be on official business. It's only when I don't have agenda items to talk about that I have trouble speaking to people one-on-one. I know I can do this because I used to be a field canvasser for an environmental group from 1990 to 1994. It was a both a fantastic and terrible job at the same time. However it did give me two great stories to tell, "Angus Hebb" and "Two Guns", Both of which I will tell if there is a Christmas gathering and the Skype connection allows for it and anyone wants to hear them. Now, I'm off to get a printed portfolio together. -Sara _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: I have a job interview!
Just back from the interview. It seemed to go well. I was their first interviewee, and they had 7 more to do. I will know on Monday whether I got the job or not. Most of the job will be just making the signs for their products. However, I will also get to make up flyers and update their WordPress Web site. I showed them the "Lighthouse" Friday challenge image. The store manager loved it because it was whimsical and they liked whimsy there. It seems I would be a good fit. The only drawback is that it is 8-5 and I would have to work weekends. I would have Mondays and Thursdays off. I was kind of hoping for more flexible hours. I wasn't sure how well I was going to do because yesterday, when I was coming out of the supermarket, I found a guitar pic on the ground. It was a grey, Jim Dunlop, which was Jeff's favorite. It set me right off. I called friends but couldn't get in touch with anyone until almost 8:00PM. My friend told me that even though it had been over twenty years since her husband died sometimes little reminders like that still would get to her and not to feel bad about feeling bad. That did make me feel a little better but I still woke up feeling a little sad this morning. However, I was fine by the time I got to the interview. I'll let you know what happens on Monday. The good thing is even if I don't get this job, I still have the one with the County and who knows what else might come my way. -Sara _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: I have a job interview!
Thank you, all, for all your good wishes. However, I did not get the job. It's OK they came back on Friday with a new ad stating the pay was only $13-$15 per hour. Just to give you an idea of how low that is, minimum wage around here is $10.00. I still have the County job that starts next week, and I can still look. -Sara _________________ I'm still learning. |
