Optical illusion

David, a friend showed me this the other day and I wanted to pass it on to you. The question is - is the cat going up or down.

Re: Optical illusion
Then I came across this and found it amazing. Can you figure out what it is?

Steve on a bad day?

My guess would be a shark seen from directly beneath. It's amazing how our mind can create faces from clouds, embers, just about anything, you name it. It's a conditioning from our need to distinguish one human face from another.

Thank you for these.

This lovely ambiguity exists in many forms. I love this one because it is a natural photograph without trickery. It may be deliberate ..... or could even be accident.

The answer, to my mind, is down. But the only way that can be guessed at is the projecting 'nosings' on the step edges. If the cat was climbing the stairs these would be pointing upwards and a veritable trip hazard. If you photoshopped those away I don't think you could possibly tell from the cat alone. Maybe a veterinary could pick up subtle body clues but I certainly couldn't. Great!

Another one for the library. Thank you!
