Thank you Steve and David. Here is you candle model David. I rendered it without any manipulation apart from posing her as close to the original as I could. I merged the manipulated scene with the untouched model and then deleted the manipulated one leaving the lights as I had them originally so as to achieve an unbias setting and lighting. I then rendered it as is. I actually can't believe the difference myself. Sub sufrace scattering, back scattering, specular, normal, bump and displacement maps with 3 levels of sub division. Fibre eye brows, velius hair etc etc. The collar is a type of vinyl. You can see in both renders how it magnifies the skin detail and that is what looks amis around the neck.  _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

The model was done by a 3D artist at Render hub. It is of a character from a game called Detroit: become human. I never included the android ring on her temp. Many have had and many shall have, heart wrenching moments in their lives. All families experience the passing of a loved one. It’s a difficult time. A time when one needs love and caring to remind them that life goes on. I lost my father at a young age. I hadn’t seen him for 3 weeks before he died, as I was away at boarding school. Although the drive home was long, the impact of my dad’s passing really hit me when I saw my mother, standing in the dark garden, in front of the farm house. I dropped everything and was drawn to her embrace. The tears welled in my eyes and blurred my vision as I cocooned into her arms. I recognised the look on her face; (the notorious 1000-yard stare) but she still comforted me with a kind, comforting and reassuring smile. A smile of strength, confidence, reassurance and care. I could feel her shudder in that silent embrace and somehow, her strength stilled my intense unhappiness to a quiet sadness. Without saying much, we all turned and walked into the house. That amazing woman, mother of 4 boys; tilled the soil of the farm; got a 2nd job in the nearby town, 16 kms away and worked herself from the wee hours of the morning, well into the night. She put me through school, kept the porch light on for my 3rd eldest brother, who was in the air force at the time and put my 2 eldest brothers through agricultural college. I never heard her complain once…except for when I brought a snake into the house…. but that’s another story. I have been blessed with the woman in my life. Whether it is the overflowing of my mother’s quiet strength that has touched the woman we are now blessed to be married to, or whether we were lucky enough to marry woman similar to her, they have all shone brightly. Conquering problems whilst fending for their family, with un conditional love. Maybe it’s the Lord’s way of gathering that same confident, comforting strength around us. To consul us for when our mother leaves us. A time I’m not looking forward to. Closing in on her 90’s, she still drives her car, works in the garden, moves rocks in her rockery, uses the weed eater; and much to my disgust, the electric hedge trimmer to. The other day she asked me where the chainsaw was and I said, “No, not on!” and hid it. I pray and hope, that if you haven’t been as blessed as I am, to have been raised and surrounded by such magnificent woman as I have, if you are a woman, please muster the strength and strive to be so, for your loved ones. You will be appreciated, loved, supported and looked after. If you are a man, support your woman in such a way that they are able to be the crowning glory of your family. Thank you, mom, for the example you have set. Thank you to all the family wives. It’s evident that you were raised in a loving home and to the young ladies in the family, just follow the lead. I choose to challenge – all people: to cherish their woman as they should their mother, their wife, their sister or their daughter and to extend this consideration to all those around you. As a father, I was faced with the duty of presenting my daughter to her future husband. I dreaded the coming event, as I am somewhat of a jokester in familiar circles, fairly shy around strangers and scared of making a fool of myself. What would I say? What jokes would I tell? I spent ages searching the net for something appropriate, to think about, to write about but nothing appealed to me. When I’m am deeply troubled, I don’t look to people for answers, I pray for guidance and read the bible. Don’t confuse me for a bible puncher but when I’m lost, I’m wise enough to seek a high place to see where I am, rather than searching in the valley. So I started at the beginning and opened The Book of Genesis….but…. I know the story of Adam and Eve. So does most people. Well, you will only understand some things in The Good Book, when it is revealed to you. God moulded Adam from earth but created Eve from Adam’s rib. Not from his head so woman can manipulate him, or from his feet, so that he can walk over her but from his side. So that together, side by side, they can join as a whole and be more effective and efficient as a unity. The Hebrew word used as rib, in this instance, is used 2 more times in the bible and that is to describe the side of the tabernacle and the side of the pulpit. The sides of the tabernacle were made from fragile material screenings. One of the inner sanctuaries was the Holy of Holies. A sanctuary that only 1 person, a designated high priest, was allow access to. Such fragile dividers kept multitudes at bay. Not because they weren’t able to penetrate them but through consensual agreement of all. They all protected the tabernacle. So to, should you treat and protect your woman folk. The sides of the pulpit, as a simile for woman, is also very appropriate. It is the mother who nurtures the infant into life. It is the mother who feeds and fends for the child and prepares him or her, for their journey into adulthood and beyond. God presented Eve to Adam. The honour and privilege I was entrusted with, to accompany my daughter down the isle and present her to her future husband; as her father; as God did with Eve; was a heart wrenching realisation and experience. Thank you for that lesson and privilege. And thank you Daz Studio staff and Catalyst, for reminding me of this wonderful experience and for honouring woman worldwide. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Dennis I need no convincing. Born to a strong and fiercely independent mother, I have surrounded myself all my life with strong women. I love them! As for Daz et al. you know my reservations. I can remember when you first started. (Eighteen/nineteen years ago?). Daz was in its very early incarnation then and looked upon as a toy by serious 3D modellers and other sceptics like me. Well things have come a long way since then. You stuck to it and the work you are doing now is truly astonishing. ........ and my hat tastes horrible. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thank you Frank and David. Please don't eat your hat. Through those years you have no idea how I wanted you to eat it...lol. No really and i'm serious. We all created a strong art family bond back then. You all taught me so much and if there's a person I who like to hear say "that is good," it's you David. You set my bar and i'm trying to achieve higher. If I render a picture in Daz, you come to mind as the person I'd like to hear say, "Well done." I'll get you to down load it one day, then I can be the teacher....but you have been and still are, my Sensei. You had a big influence in my digital art. I can't possibly begin to reply to that - except thank you. Yes. One day I will download Daz and have another go but, in the meantime, here is a post about the first time I tried it. I have made a new post in Off Topic which goes back to 2008 and Graphics.com and my antics when Daz sponsored one of the monthly contests in which I sure you must have taken part too. My render above was 2nd runner up in the challenge. Here's my render for this month. It's 99% Daz Studio iRay render. Apart from modeling the cutlass, I modeled the ocean aswell as textured it. I couldn't find anything else that was suitable. I'm glad I tried on my own.

Steve, in Friday challenge 855, The Golden Lion, you wondered what would be in the cart and you hoped that I had time to fill it. Well, I have. These are great Dennis. The girl is remarkably real. Even the hair which is often the weak point. The Pirate and his boat do look a bit Daz'ish but the plague scene is remarkable. Beautifully done. As for the bodies in the cart, I often create things in a scene that I later cover up with something else. Ideas change and develop as I am working. Thank you Steve, David, Lloyd and Michael. As you all know, we were hindered by cyber attacks in the Ports of South Africa. This gave me time to re-visit some techniques; old and new; and to test Daz's new 8.1 models. If you were pleased with the last close-up Daz bust that I posted, i'm sure you'll be amazed at what can be achieved with the new Daz models, without tweaking much. Given the ability to tweak them even further, they are turning into pretty realistic models. I'm very impressed with them. I was roped into Shift art after the cyber attacks were resolved; as mentioned, due to their late Daz challenge. For my first challenge, I posted the 3rd render above...that was 2nd runner up. The 2nd challenge, I submitted the pirate render 2nd above...and got 1st runner up....and the following month, the challenge got scrapped. After a month of intense gaming and free lance arting, I returned to the site to see if they'd reconsidered the cancelling of the Daz challenge, to no avail. I reluctantly squizzed at the Photoshop challenge. Pimp your ride. The thoughts of Steve's antique horse jockey weigh-in chair came to mind and the pleasure I got from designing my steam punk "Caractacus Potts" inspired vehicle, filled me once again, and I participated in their September Photoshop challenge. Pimp you ride...and won, over 45 plus entries of some very able artists. Well, being thick skinned, I haven't left while ahead and have prepared a second Photoshop image for the October challenge. One that I was dying to contact Steve for advise on as there was a particular place I was having problems with. I'm glad I keep checking up on the site as Steve's tutorial on placing the boat on water helped remind me of the blend if tool, so many overlook...and that did the trick...thanks Steve. I find myself so wishing I could get you all to critique my images and or renders, before I submit them elsewhere, to help iron out the kinks. Oh, I do know by this time, I have said enough, but it is of great interest that an interview of a favourite artist, at Shift art, was asked what his resources were. He mentioned 3 books. 1 of those 3 books, is written by Mr Steve Caplin. Reading between the lines, "How to cheat in Photoshop" was his main go to book. Keep the finger clicking.
