Re: Epstein's torso steam drill help
Absolutely nothing wrong with your modeling Anna. I love the intricate designs you create. The nice thing about your models, is that they have a purpose, to use in your videos etc. I don't know where mine fit in. I spend hours trying to finish a model and then am not satisfied with it and it gets put on the back burners until who knows when. It's a great deal of work and there's tons to learn. I must say that I do enjoy it but it keeps me away from producing art. So I try and pour art into them.

I've continued with the crate and have got it textured quite nicely but am having issues with the uv maps. I've redone the crate about a dozen times. I hope I don't lose heart with that aswell. It'll make a nice addition to the steam drill and my wagon...which by the way also isn't finished...lol.

It looks great but it's mesh is to heavy. If you use it in a scene, it uses to much resources. So I have to model it again.

Re: Epstein's torso steam drill help
I've just searched through my external hard drive at work but can't find a render of my wagon. I'm shocked however, at the amount of projects I have not completed. When I say completed, I mean that someone else would be able to load it and apply textures to it and use it in a scene, without a fuse.

No Dennis stamp of approval...lol.

I do notice that I have used a fair amount of my models in renders that I have done.

I also modeled The Zulu kraal, maize crusher and calabash on the table. Guess what...the Zulu kraal is still not finished...lol. I constructed the weave of wattle trees that form the frame work of the kraal. Just never finished it...another idea, another challenge...and plenty of work.

Zulus attack at Isandlwana was put together using the 3 zulu impi's from the image 2 above.

Steve, I think I sent this image to you.

Okay, back to the steam drill crate. Closed version completed. Now for the open version.

Here is the same crate fresh out of the factory and on arrival at it's destination.

Okay, enough now. Next post when the steam drill is finished...when ever that may be. Had some serious issues with it.

Re: Epstein's torso steam drill help
The huge difference I see Dennis, between all those years ago when you got started with 3D and now, is that your work is no longer too 'perfect' looking. You are applying the scars of life and usage. That is, to my mind, the heart of good 3D. In the image above the crate is still virgin but in the preceding image it is very convincing indeed. Well done ......

Now all you need is to find a way round those posed looking vynil skinned mannequins. You've done some really amazing stuff with them but it is still the achilles heel of 3D. This is not just you ..... all animators outside the heavyweight professionals struggle with this. And of course more and more of what the professionals do is based on motion capture.

It just goes to show how amazingly finely tuned our perceptions of the human body are.

You've come a long way Dennis. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the kind words Loyd and David.

David, you inspired me to dirty up the open crate and post it. I had intentions of doing it...eventually...lol. I've just got to work out how to create some nail holes without increasing the mesh density.

Re: Epstein's torso steam drill help
Thank you David. That is a huge complement. I wanted to complete the Epstein's torso steam drill but i've misplaced the last file where I was uv mapping the model for final render.

Thank you also Steve, for the wonderful Friday challenge. A real life saver during a time when hard long hours at work have sapped the energy levels and left null and void, the creative juices. Challenge 821 sparked a tiny enough interest to attempt to model and texture the wash basin. As there is minimal PS used in the image, I will post it here instead of in the challenge. Thank you for sparking a tiny bit of the creative spirit in me in me.

I've just re-visited the challenge (very creative work all); and realised from the photo, that my models legs are to short. The basin should be approximately dresser height.

Thanks Steve. Not much PS used apart from slight tweaking. Didn't think it would be fair...there again your site is called......lol.

Re: Epstein's torso steam drill help
PS is pretty nominal nowadays. Lots of animations and some 3D all are put up for consideration. Do join in again ........
