Re: Daz Studio - worth it or not
Where do I start. Covid, lock down, South Africa's riots and looting or the cyber acts...I seem to disappear into the same realm...that of gaming or 2D and 3D art....thats when I'm not working...which is all the time.

I mentioned prior in this post that I was excited about the release of the new Daz character; Genesis 8.1. and it's potential. I spent some time playing with detail texture maps and striving for further realism.

After a fair amount of trial and error (I must admit, the textures are good, the best to date by Daz and their artists) and a lot of Photo -shopping of various 3D related maps, I produced a skin texture that I was happy with, considering the environment. A Viking girl's skin should be relatively dry and flaky, with rosy cheeks and a certain amount of sheen; pealing lips etc...damn, I talk too much. Just looking...lol

Then there's "Lock down." Very emotional time in our live...wink, nudge...say no more...

This image made me think of the media frenzy we experience world wide now days. A persecution is initiated through a single selected frame that appears to represent A and without considering what lies outside of the frame; a new world order truth is born and multitudes slaught upon it. My seductive image in view is but a horrific ugly pose.

She's standing straight up with her left arm extended backwards. A mass of hair extends above her head and fabric is jammed through her chest and chin....enter the photographer (Mr Mac for argument sake) move into an appealing frame and wallah...a dorky stance looks seductive.

Oh, David, I haven't yet found a suitable head of hair yet, for close ups, that is. I spent ages using the smudge tool to break and extend the highlights and hairs. I must say I am impressed with the result.

The hair on both images, was the only manipulating I did. The top image, I introduced more high lights to the plats on the viking girls forehead. Sorry, I touched up the eyes of the model above, in Photoshop aswell.

I don't normally do close-ups. It's almost like I was being steered towards my next image; which is another close-up.

It's a bit emotional for me, so I'll carry on a bit later.

Re: Daz Studio - worth it or not
My brother was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

According to the doctor's, he's on borrowed time. He's decided he wants to spend his last days on his farm. My mother, turning 90 this month, has gone up to oversee the care givers responsible for his keep.

Being a few hundred kilometers from where I stay, I wanted to do a meaningful portrait for both my mother and brother. To keep comfort and watch over them.

I'm not a Roman Catholic but if there was a person in history that understood the weight of their son being persecuted, it was Jesus' mother Mary. That's why I did a bust of Mary, to comfort and watch over the house hold.

My brother's eye sight has deteriorated so in hopes that he could at least see what I had done for him, I also did a close up of Mary's face. God bless you all.

Thinking about the farm so much, there's an oil painting on the wall. It's been in the family since the 50's; may even be an original...but not worth much anymore.

The 4 hooligan brothers were playing silly buggers in the lounge and put a rugby ball through it. Wasn't a clever thing to do. It has been mended and retouched but not outrageously well.

I tried to do a 3D representation of it, using AM's Daz lion.

Astonishing work, Dennis. The portrait is fabulous.

Best of luck to you, your mother and of course your brother in these difficult times.

Dennis somehow I managed to miss all the recent posts. The portrait work is just stunning. I wish your brother all the best.

Thank you Steve. Thank you David.

I've just come back from the farm. What a difference 3 weeks can make.

This is the last serious image I was able to do before being called back to the office. It was amongst the honorable mentions. I thought it would do better but maybe I have to start thinking outside the box. Be more imaginative.

Aside from the obvious implausibility of being able to take a real waterline photo of this nature, it is completely convincing. I could easily believe it were real.

Thank you greatly David. My striving for realism may be my downfall though, in most challenges.
When Doug joined us again in the challenges a while back, I believe Steve hinted at it to. The lack of imagination. The absence of surrealism or abstract art. I just get caught up in trying to include all that would be evident in a real world, rather than masking any ground plain in an image. Almost masking the fact that I couldn't re-produce the real McCoy.

Ah, thank you Frank. Sorry I took so long to show my appreciation of comment. I have been so busy!

Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all.

What a crazy, busy year's end. I decided to revisit Challenge 821 and play with light and wet maps with the image I never posted in the challenge. I hope nudity does not offend. I tried to make it as subtle as possible...so find a dark room to view. It is a dull image.

Re: Daz Studio - worth it or not
I've spent days, not hours, re-texturing, working out water maps, modelling the flotation device on my space capsule from challenge 890 and I'm not convinced my time was worth it.

Anyway, I've had enough of it. Any suggestions?
