quick mask (moved from General forum)
I've fell at the first fence Steve. I am trying to produce the red circles in your example, On page 6 it says "the array is simply made by nudging the selection" there is no ref to nudging anywhere to be found so how do I make all the red circles Please |

Re: quick mask
Gerry, Firstly, make sure that Quickmask(Q) is set to highlight selected areas - double-click the quickmask icon in the tools palette and check the Selected Areas radio button. Make sure you have the default palette set (D) and that black is the foreground colour. Now use the Elliptical Marquee(M/Shift+M) to draw a circle (hold shift to draw a perfect one). From there, follow the steps in the book, you should get the desired results. David _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: quick mask
Cheers David I have done as you said but there are NO steps in the book to follow..thats my point I have got one red circle by following the instructions to the letter then it says "the array is made simply by nudging the selection" What does that mean to someone who has just started? |

Re: quick mask
The previous pages (4 & 5) show all the different methods of selection and how to move/replicate. In this instance, create the selection in QM mode, fill it with black, now hold CTRL+ALT and move the mouse, this creates a copy - if you hold shift as well, it constrains the movement so you can keep them in line. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

No problem! Watching the video on selection basics is a good idea, as you can see it in action. _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

Re: quick mask (moved from General forum)
Gerry, The book wasn't written with beginners in mind, and I apologise for the problems you've been having. I didn't feel I could cover all the basics and still have space to write about the interesting stuff. But in the next edition I'm getting an extra 64 pages so I'll try to give beginners more of a hand as well! Thanks for your patience. Do post any more queries here. And David, thanks as always for helping me out. Steve |

Re: quick mask (moved from General forum)
I would like to disagree with you Steve (on my first post this is a bit bold perhaps....). I bought the program, your book and another book that merely described the tools while in the UK this Summer. As a complete beginner reading from page one, when a tool or a description had me flumoxed, I referenced it in the Photoshop help files or the boring tool book. Your book gave me the inspiration and a path to follow, no pun intended. I am having a wonderful time playing with the program thanks to your book. I finally read the "How to use this book" while in the bath (one cannot take one's computer everywhere) this morning and found this forum. This is just great. I have already had a lot of questions answered by reading through the threads. As with everyone else, I would like to thank you for the inspiration and information that your book and forum make so freely available. |

Re: quick mask (moved from General forum)
Thanks for the kind comments, eventer. I realise many more people may be picking up the book who don't know Photoshop inside out, so I'm glad you managed to find your way here! We'll do our best to help with any queries - and if I'm not around, then David, or Maiden, or one of the regulars will certainly help out. Horse trainer? Really? Great. Horses and computers is a pretty unique combination! Thanks for taking the trouble to fill in your interests, it makes it a lot easier for me to know who I'm talking to. Welcome to the forum Steve |
