isolation of image question...?
hi all!

i have a close-up of an image and wanted to block out the background. long story short...i used the mighty pen to trace around the image, it took several layers to complete. but now i can't figure out how to eliminate my areas that i have blacked out and/or move the image i have isolated. lol!

when i was using the pen and completed each section i would cntrol/enter,inverse,delete...but it wouldn't let me.
if i activate the isolated area and try to delete it won't do it because "the area is not directly editable". if i use contrast and make my image (foreground, want to keep) white and the background black the magic want wont activate the white...just the entire pic.

i have a beautifully cut-out image but can't do anything with it!
can someone point me in the right direction?

thanks all!

Sounds like it's on the background layer or you may have inadvertently locked it.

Why many layers?

Re: isolation of image question...?
thanks for replying.

i just found out was i was doing wrong but it still doesn't make sense to me.
let me explain what's happening...
if i just take the pen and create an area with it and control/enter...it's highlighted...then i delete and it says area not editable...but if i hit control enter again i see the shape icon in the layers panel get activated...hit delete twice and cut-out goes away.

i can make it work but it's a little fuzzy to me whats going on.

Re: isolation of image question...?
1. when you first open the original image, in the layers palate double click on the background layer to make it editable...it will then say layer 0.
2. draw the working path with the pen tool and then click on the dotted circle at the bottom of the paths palate to turn the path into a selection (marching ants).
3.go to select and then inverse the selection.
4. hit delete and you will knockout the background leaving the object you wanted to isolate and save.
5. don't need any more layers until you begin you collage.
6. Hope this helps, Marty
