Hi
I am still trying to get the hang of getting the sign (Danger Do not enter).
With the help you gave me last time I can now follow the steps using Steves example.
Problem comes when I try to do my own. Main snag is getting the drawing onto the Alpha channel.
I'v made the sign on a separate layer, and tried to do a copy/past
onto the Alpha channel. I have to select it to get it to copy.
When I try to Past into the Alpha all I get is the selection borders.
If I try to draw the thing in the Alpha Channel everything goes haywire. I know I'm doing something silly, but what ?

If your new sign is on a seperate layer it is straightforward.

1. Select the pixels in the layer by Ctrl-clicking on the layer thumbnail
2. Open the Channels palette and from the flyout menu (little triangle at the top) select "New Channel", choose "Selected Areas", OK. This will give you a new Alpha Channel with the selection outlined
3. Fill with black (press Shift-F5 and choose black)
4. Deselect (Ctrl D)

You now have an Alpha channel.

If your new sign is not on a seperate layer use the magic wand tool to select it and proceed from 2. If it's not easy to select try viewing each of the R/G/B channels, choose the one with most contrast and select from this.

Many thanks ! I did it step by step as you described, and it worked first time.

I was just going to ask this question regarding p. 242, chapter 10.
I wanted to understand it as if I was starting from a flat image.
It was not clear to me as to how to paste into an alpha channel.

But this answered it.
