Problem with Multiple Shadowed Objects, p. 98 exercise
Neat exercise. having problems with step 4. I select the card pixels, feather. Then I nudge the selection area down a bit. Now the problem is when I go Fill Behind, the Behind is light gray. Nothing happens. I wonder what I am doing wrong...

I tried replicating the problem. The only time Behind was greyed out was if it was left in Quickmask or was on the wrong layer.

Hi David,

I checked to make sure I was out of Quickmask and that I was on the correct layer. Still no go. I do find the "nudge selection a couple of pixels down" a bit confusing. I use the move tool and actually drag the selected card down a bit. Also I am confused to what they mean when they refer to the Marque Tool. I am supposed to use this tool to do the nudging...isn't that just the Move Tool?

The Marquee tool is the rectangular/elliptical selection tool. If you have the Move Tool selected you will be moving the card, not its selection - this causes the problem you are having with the Fill dialog.

Select the Marquee (M) and use the cursor (arrow) keys to nudge the selection down. You'll now be able to fill behind and continue with the tutorial.

Hope this helps,

David

Glad that one's sorted out. If you find the Behind option is greyed out, it's probably because you have Lock Transparency checked for that layer.
