How Do I Import Vector paths into Photoshop?
Greetings All and a Happy New Year!

I need help. I've taken a month-long assignment at McGraw-Hill publishers, where I retouch and photo-montage images.

The force me to use that yucky PhotoshopCS (I love my Photoshop 5.0, and miss it). It's got what seems like hundreds of menus and palettes, but I can't find a command to import vector paths from Illustrator.

In my old, wonderful and dear Photoshop 5.0, all I need to do was copy the vector paths in Illustrator, then paste them in Photoshop. I was given a choice if I want to paste the art as pixels or paths.

Simple! But not so in PhotoshopCS. I'm never given the option and the paths are always pasted as pixels.

How do I get vector paths pasted or imported into Photoshop? I want to use them for selections and clipping paths for EPS files.

Neal not sure if this helps. But reading the help file in CS2 (assume same in CS) it says under title "Pasting illustrator art into CS2"

"To paste the art as a smart object, rasterized, path or shape layer turn on the PDF and the AICB (no transparency support) options in the file handling & clipboard preferences in Adobe Illustrator"

Not sure if thats what your after.

Chris is absolutely right - you set the Prefs in Illustrator first, and that's what's been causing the problem for you. Then, when you copy and paste, you'll be able to paste copied Illustrator art as pixels, paths or (if you have CS2) Smart Objects. You're prompted for which one you want when you paste.

A big Thank You Chris and Steve!

I'll look for those settings in IllustratorCS.

Of course, I'm use to working in Illustrator 8.0, a wonderful and uncomplicated application, and I can just imagine the hundreds and thousands of new menu options and palettes I'll need to plow through to find this setting.
