Is There Something Else I need to Read
I have just got the book and it looks GREAT but I am starting to struggle with some of the very early and probably basic chapters. OK, I am very new to Photoshop, most of what I have done to date being correcting colours, levels, cropping and some basic combining images so that probably does not help. Is there something I need to read first (tutorial) that will hep me get the baisic in place. May sound like a stupid question but some simple basic understandings may help me. For example Page 52 the Psion and the Hand mentions Shadow, you may all laugh at me but I can not figure this bit out yet, how do you add a shadow, and I can not see it covered earlier in the book. The quick mask was a brilliant tip, this alone is worth the price of the book so I am not complaining. Any advice greatly appreciated, now stop laughing at me please...even old blokes like me have feelings.

Hi David, and welcome to the Forum. Photoshop can be a little overwhelming when you first open it up..... and you get the feeling it's in charge and not you at times ..... but we all have to start sumwhere. Steve's book is an awesome book to have.... and as you learn more skills you will see just how valuable it is. A good place to start though, if it all seems a bit much for you, is Maiden's site (Maiden is a member of this forum) here's the Link... http://www.maidenart.co.uk/
she has sum really good and easy to understand tutorials on her site which mite help you get to grips with things (hope she doesn't mind me pluggin her site? hehe) and of course there are plenty of others here who will be only too glad to help you with anything you get stuck on... including the one and only Steve himself! The shadows you're talking about from page 52 can be simply drawn on with a black, soft edge brush and the opacity reduced.... have a look back to pages 22-23 at the tutorial Steve did with the playing cards. Keep checking back to this forum too.... it will help you a lot. Good luck!

Thank you for this advice, which you can be assured I will be taking. I have tried some other examples with sucess so I am hooked on it. Now, I'm off out to take some photo's to play around with using some of my already new found skills. I'll get there.
